after 5100 kms, i've finally decided to chip. decision wasn't too tough, i had my sights set on the neuspeed chip. can't go wrong w/ $250 Canadian.
my friend got a special deal with neuspeed. instead of sending my ecu to them, they sent the computer chip itself to me so i wouldn't be without transportation. we just removed the stock chip and soldered the neuspeed chip in. reconnected the ecu and off i went. initially got a bit freaked cuz a fault code came up...turns out it was a burnt headlight (see my other post).
before i continue with my impressions...my a4 is 1.8t sport quattro tip -- yes, basically the slowest combo available. i can't believe such a small computer chip can have such a huge difference in the way the car performs. the idle seemed a bit rougher when i started the car the first time, not as much the morning after.
off-the-line acceleration is improved, but the real gains seem to be in the 20-50 acceleration. and that's just 31 extra hp...the wett chip must feel incredible!
so far, so good...no pinging, no check engine lights. next, HID's!

Is the chip a MDIP or a surface mount part?? I suppose one could even install their own sockett if they wanted.
Thanks for your reply.
David

Brian,
I have the same set up as you (although U.S. spec) and plan to chip in the Spring with either Neuspeed or Wett. I am leaning towards Neuspeed based on value - so I'd appreciate it if you can post or e-mail me any ongoing feedback on performance, problems, etc.
Thanks,
Chris

$250 Cdn...works out to about $160 US
my buddy said it was a special deal which they normally don't do.
it's a surface mount -- definitely could've mounted socket, too lazy.
chip is quite difficult to remove
