I recently noticed a loss of power on my 98' 1.8. I still hear the turbo spooling but the power is just not there. I haven't taken it into the dealer yet but before I did, I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. I've seen posts from others with leaky hoses. What were the symtoms? Please help. Thx.

I recently had a similar problem. It turned out that the wastegate rod on the turbo broke. I had to get a brand new turbo.<p>Symptoms:<br>Engine seems to be working hard, but you don't seem to be going that fast<br>I can hear the turbo <br>loud noise from under the car, sounded like the exhaust, but it wasn't<br>Driving with passenger side window down, I could hear a metallic like noise<br>Lastly, Smoke coming from engine compartment by the turbo<p>Hope this helps<p>Robert
