So I came into my office and saw my package and went straight to my car and plugged my Neuspeeded ECU in today. I got it from Greedspeed, $160. 2.5 days down time. BTW, I have a '97 1.8Tqm non-sport
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: On a quick 15 minute test drive I noticed that the turbo wine is slightly more audible, but nowhere near others that I've heard (i.e. Volvo 850Turbo). Below 3000 rpm I would say the difference is forgettable. Above 3000 possibly 3500, the engine is noticably zippier. The revs climb with more authority but all the while feels smooth and composed. Passing speed in forth gear from 50-60mph felt much better. The engine is way more flexible. If Audi boosts the 1.8T to a similar config for 1999, it is a wise move. I can't wait to have more time with my engine, that at 20,000 miles, is new again.
QUESTION: If all went well with installation (I didn't even lose a screw) and the check engine light is quiet, can I expect smooth goings from now on, or are there any caveats or milestones I should be aware of?
ADVICE: I took 20,000 miles to decide what chip to get, and since the price/performance factor was so favorable I went Neuspeed finally. I am kind of a conservative guy, and 0-60 is not as important as is feeling like I made a drivability improvement. Don't get me wrong, fun-factor had a lot to do with it, but let's get real, none of us bought A4s to road-race with a Camaro SS. I'm glad I chipped and would recommend anyone do the same. That is unless something goes wrong which I don't forsee or want.
Later.
-Micah
'97, 1.8Tqm, Neuspeed
