I was looking through the archives of a Lexus mailing list and ran across the following - only a portion of the message appears below. The message related to the RX300 model (SUV based on ES300/Camry platform):
"I sure wish Lexus would make the list of TSB's available to owners since there
are so many common problems with this vehicle.
I know of the following TSB's:
1. Sunroof wind noise reduction (involves shims and new sunroof computer)
2. Auto Headlamps - need new body ECU
3. Roof rack wind noise reduction - new crosstips
4. Squeaky brakes - new rotors and calipers
5. Wind noise reduction on driver's side (replace the little quarter window).
My dealer has only been able to do partial fixes on items 1, 2 & 4. I got the
sunroof shims, but not the new computer. Instead of installing a new body ECU,
they turned my headlamp shutoff time to zero seconds (from 30). Although they
previously fixed the squeaky brakes with new pads, the squeak is back. My
dealer told me about the new brake TSB, but parts not in yet. All of the
other parts needed to complete the fixes are supposedly on back order.
Other common problems include the remote locking system (may also be a TSB)
and various creaks and rattles. I sometimes drive with the top center drawer
pulled out (to store my cell phone) and it rattles like an airplane's overhead
bin during massive turbulence. I wish they could do something to reduce that
annoying noise."
Well, does that sound kind of familiar, Audi owners? To give Lexus credit, this was a first-year model, and I don't have any doubt that the average Lexus is more trouble-free than the average Audi. And Lexus is also uniformly good in the service area and they desperately want to eliminate any problems to keep their ratings high. But I thought the above message would be entertaining because of the similarities to problems that have been posted on A4's.
Dale
