I just picked up my new 1998 A4Q2.8 on Monday and I love it. The sport suspension is wonderful even though I will have to put on snow tires soon. The Tiptronic is an amazing transmission and the V6 is wonderful. Great on the hills here in Germany. I traded in a 1997 VW Passat station wagon for it, mostly because of the Quattro system. Never had a problem in 32k miles with the Passat and I expect the Audi to be just as good. Did own a 1996 Trans Am and I couldn't keep it out of the shop. It would be nice to have a sunny day here though but it handles great in the rain. I'm returning to the states in March, either to New Mexico or Utah. If anyone has any doubt at how good the A4 is, just come to Germany. You will see a lot of them everywhere with all different motors. The 1.9 TDI, 1.8, 1.8T, 2.8 and the S4. Even the TDIs are very quick on the autobahn. The black paint is one of the best I've seen. 1000 times better than Ford's. Well, I hope to see you on the road someday.
