Les,
i jsut came backa few weeks ago from the saem area which I had also visited in May. I love it there, A9 is a great road but it takes a while to get upto speed with the traffic in the area, but i am sure you had no problem with that. And damn!!!, 300kmh, most I got to was 222kmh due mostly to traffic and my highly underpowered 520 rental car. Hope I get this chance someday. BTW, how did you get this chance if you dont mind me asking?
Chris

Roland Mayer of MTM works closely with Audi AG. I spoke to a few key press people and the car was mine.... to use and abuse.
I am the most spoiled human on the planet!
In my next life, Im sure I'll be a ditch digger
Les, as you have now tested the S4, and I am sure you also got to try an M Coupe by now, which would you say would be a good AutoX car? Driving on the AutoBahn is one thing, but serious competition in SCCA Racing is what I am looking for.

the a4 chassis is would not be my first choice for an autocross car. The m-coupe however is custom made to carve small spaces. 240 bhp also helps a great deal.

That's a little like trying to decide between a Corvette and an A-mod car. No doubt which is faster, but which will win? The competition in each class will determine that. Which is the most fun in an autocross? Now, that is a good question. In the case of an S4 and an M coupe it probably depends on whether it rains or not for the event.

Um Les, your last issue said that these type of tuned motors had life spans in minutes.....How many minutes are there in 4 days? Guess MTM changed lots of internals. Steve.
Les Bidrawn is the resident Audi fanatic at European Car magazine. He has even done an article on one of my friend's car (Sarge's 200TQ 20V). He does some writing and a lot of photography for the magazine, and basically has the best job i've ever heard of. He's a real nice guy, I called him up about 6 months ago to talk A4 chips with him (after reading the May chip comparo article), and he was real helpful and informative.
So, Les, when are you coming down to Florida?
Christian J. I am fully aware that the S4 would is a different type of car than the M Coupe. I guess I should have re-worded it as in their RESPECTIVE classes, which would be a more competitive car? But in thinking about it again:
The M Coupe will either be in A Stock, or in
Super Stock (Vettes and Gen 3 RX7's).
Now the S4, . . . . hmmm. As it is A4 based, it might be in G Stock (for awhile unless it kills all competition), but due to the AWD traction and the 260HP, it could quite possibly be put up against the M3 in A Stock. But then if the M Coupe is in AS too, no question, but if the M Coupe is in SS, then the proper questions should be re-worded as:
Would the M Coupe have a chance in SS against the Vette and Gen 3 RX7?
Would the S4 in AS have a chance against the M3 (Coupe or Sedan)?
I think this is the better questions I should have asked.

Hey Les (and guys),
I'm really thinking of trading my WETT 2.8 A4 30V (A4 content) for an A6/S6 sometime in '99. But, I keep hearing conflicting reports about what engine configuration it will have. Biturbo V6? 265 hp? 230 hp? V8? 300 hp? 320hp? Biturbo V8? 420 hp? Will the A6, itself, get a nice V8 like the BMW 540?
When will any of these arrive?
I need a company car (the A4 isn't big enough for business). My partner already has an A6. But, that's too slow and not sporty enough for me.
If Audi can't get their act together for 99/00, I may have to go with BMW.
An information would be welcome. Guys?
Rick
MTM did no internal mods to the motor. It was entirely based on a revised set of fuel maps and bigger injectors. BHP is something like 380 while torque skyrockets to 485 ft-lb.
Any mod done to a stock vehicle will ultimatley shorten its lifespan.
But it's been said that the candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long.
I rest my case.

the A6 will have a hi-po V8 under the hood. Anyway, that's what Audi AG wants.

The A6 is available until 230 hp (V6 Biturbo, 2.7 litres) at the moment. The S6 is under construction and will have a V8 (non-turbo) with 310 hp. Other modifications will follow. 400 hp can be reached in the S6 plus, but there're no official information regarding this car.
Regards from Ingolstadt
Manuel H.
Does anyone know what the lifespan is of the stock motor? I've seen several Audis with over 200K on heavily modified engines with original internals (no rebuilds).
I would not be surprised if the newer engines didn't last as long, but how long do they last? If you get 200K stock and 150K modified that's a fair trade. Everyone has been implying that modified motors only last 20-30K like the age old small block race mill. I do not believe that that comparison is fair. So the question is, what is a fair comparison?
Todd W

Manuel,
We don't have the 230 hp B6 biturbo in the states yet. Do you have any idea when these new A6s/S6s will hit our shores? I heard that the S4 will get the tip after it comes out with the 6 speed manual. Do you have any idea if the S6 will have the option of the Tip (steering wheel mounted by then)?
Rick
