Big O 10-30-1998, 01:31 PM Cameron 10-30-1998, 01:36 PM We have an early build date 1996A42.8, which arrived in early July of 1996. I suppose that shipments of A4's were moving more slowly than they are now, so I'll guess June First (6/1/96) as the first A4 shipment. Now, if you're talking about some early-ship car for a mag test, who knows when the first mag car was tested? I don't.
Cameron Cameron 10-30-1998, 01:38 PM When did the first A6 come to the U.S.?
(WARNING: trick question)
Cameron
Cathleen 10-30-1998, 01:40 PM I took delivery of it in April 1996....sticker shows a build date of Dec. 1995.
T2 10-30-1998, 01:42 PM I thought the A4 came to the US near the end of 1995 as a model year 1996 car. Cathleen 10-30-1998, 01:43 PM Big O 10-30-1998, 01:53 PM Rob O 10-30-1998, 02:02 PM 'Cause the A6, formerly known in the US as the 100/200 has been here since '91ish, as the successor to the 5000 series.
The A6 name has only been used since '95/'96 in the states.
Rob O Rob O 10-30-1998, 02:04 PM ...and I bought one in Apr-96 with a production date of Feb-96.
Rob O Big O 10-30-1998, 02:07 PM Huh? I don't remember any A6s before the ones that showed up as '98 models late in 1997. Germany had them quite a bit before that, I would guess they may have been '97 models, but the records indicate them as early as 1994 (6/94) as 2.5TDI models.
BTW, if you check the Auto, Motor und Sport archives or the Motor Presse at http://www.motor-presse-online.de/Kaufberatung/index.htm, you can see that the A4 was built starting 11/94 ! Big O 10-30-1998, 02:09 PM Cathleen 10-30-1998, 02:11 PM Steve S. 10-30-1998, 02:20 PM I bet you'll figure out a way to drive the following:
2000 S4 (you'll drive it in 7/99 - release to public in 9/99)
2000 S6 4.2 V8 (340 bhp) - you'll drive it 9/99
2000 A6 2.7 bi-turbo (235 bhp) - you'll drive it in 5/99
Let me know how far you think my guesses are....
Boy...it must be boring working today....BTW, I just go my 12/98 copy
today in the mail. The spoiler is tastefully understated and the skirts blend well. The mirrors are especially modern in appearance. And yes, it looks great considering it's a "senior". Heck, it looks good no matter how you look at it.
I think it's tough not to get the "boy racer"-look going when adding body panels! willow 10-30-1998, 02:34 PM James 10-30-1998, 03:35 PM Well, looks like most people here know that the first model year for the A4 in the US was 1996 with the 2.8 V6 12v. Guess not, eh?
So do I get one? Yes? Yes? I always meant to buy that magazine, but my Dad keeps flooding me with his Auto, Motor und Sport issues. And I didn't want to add another magazine that I would feel compelled *not* to throw out.
Wow, I didn't even know I won a contest . . . . . . . .
