For those who, well, flamed the heck out of me, it's specfically the front one I'm using, and that's because I can't take off the quattro emblem off my factory grille (the barren grille looks like someone stole my factory grille). I'm not putting an S4 emblem on the back, or debadging, or whatever -- it just looks nice to have something up front (even the ads for AutoToys and others have the Komei grille + S emblem). Remember that the steering wheel has the /S/ emblem, and there are many NON-M3/5/6 BMW's that have the ///M-Power logos and such.
I just wanted to post the price for those interested. Got a taste of my own flame-medicine. Sheesh...
-josh
98.5 2.8QMS

The S4 Emblem is blue, and not white. The white "S Type" symbol was used from 1978 until 1995 to label various AudiSport cars. The AudiSport S4, later the AudiSport S6 based on the Audi100 chassis, were the last cars to have an Audi-sanctioned AudiSport emblem in the United States. The Audi100 chassis for the S4 was marketed two years later in some parts of Eastern Europe to use up later warehoused production. The first car to have the blue S emblem was the S car equivalent to the Audi A4. The second was the S6, when first shown at the RM Design show in Germany. Hence, the emblem on the sport steering wheel is a now-generic AudiSport emblem, as opposed to an S-car specific emblem. Note that the steering wheel for the current S4 and S6 features a similar emblem, but lacquered in blue as opposed to white finish. Also, the fact that plenty of Integras are running around with R-Type emblems doesn't seem like any sort of justification -- along with the same actions taken by less-than-intelligent BMW owners with poseur ///M3's.
Cameron

Yes it is quite a task to take off ... but I got rid of mine with a little bit of creativity. Those things are just clipped on, but clipped on very well!

Tow truck drivers break into your car to release the brake and take the tranny out of gear. If they didn't, then you would have been worrying about this all along. I don't think quattros are any more at risk than other cars.
If the car is not in gear, how is this a problem for the transmission? Wouldn't this be like coasting?
If towing the car with the rear wheels on the ground is a problem, then why is this not a problem for rear wheel drive cars also?

If you tow an awd car with one end on the ground then the wheels at the other end want to spin. Even an open diff (non Torsen) cannot handle the speed difference due to inefficiencies. At best you put extreme wear on the transmission (where the center diff is), at worst you spit tranny shafts at extended highway speeds.
Todd W

Unless it actually says "S4" on it, it's just the Audi Sport logo; most of us have that on our steering wheels anyway. 8^)
CraigB

I have a s4 emblem for the rear, just haven't put it on yet. I'm not trying to fool anyone into believing I have an S4, because anyone who would notice the s4 badge would know this wasn't true. To me it is a symbol of what i want the power in the car to be when i get through with it. What I plan on doing is matching the s4 numbers or as close as i can get. Funny thing about it is, i really don't care who would agree with it or not. It's my car and if i wanted to slap a g2-400 badge on their i would. Since I'm a sane person though that will never happen!

I have both front and rear S4 badges on my A4, and yes, the one on my trunk is in the wrong side... HOWEVER. I am not trying to be a poseur S4, unlike so many Mustang GT guys that get cobra badges and wheels.
I wanted just plain old audi sport badges, and could find none back in Oct of '97. I wass at Hoppen's shop, and saw the badges, and they looked nice on the nose and tail of my A4... You never notice that they have the subdued S4 letters on them unless you are CLOSE.
I never claim to have an S4, nor to be as fast. (for now) I simply liked them.
Rich Quinlan
Nowhere near stock '97 1.8tqms

Quinland
