Just got my A4 last Saturday...fresh off the truck...one little problem, the dealer screwed me over on the trip computer. So I took it out of him by making him strike the cost of the trip computer..since it's not on the car. Then I made him agree to give me the CD Changer and install free of charge...it's about $475 with labor...good deal in my book..especially with all the recent negative posts concerning the reliabilty of the trip computer display.
Anyhow here's the question...isn't the Audi CD Changer supposed to have the Audi Rings on the door...mine doesn't have those...it just says 6 Disc or something like that. I have a 99 so it mounts in the verticall position off to the left side of the trunk..with a storage area for the tool kit. I'm wondering if the dealer cheaped me out of the real deal and gave me some cheesy unit. All of the functions work perfectly..but no rings on the face of the changer. It skips too but I'm going to look into the horiz / vert settings tomorrow.

James,
Let me know if you get the skipping situation resolved. I've got an 98.5 Avant, so beyond the positioning we've got the same changer. I've taken the changer in to be looked at because of the skipping and they told me "Keep the volume down and keep the bass tuned down". I laughed at them. I've got a call into AoA, and they recommended trying to swap out changers if the dealer will do it.
In any case, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know what happens.
Rob
(sorry this post was so long)

I had the DP601 and it seemed very prone to skipping. I replaced with the unit with a DP801 (8 cd changer) and it has yet to skip. Others on this forum have had no problems with their DP601.
If the option to replace it is there, then do it. You probably got a bad one.
