Well, the wife and I are off to the Detroit Auto Show this weekend traveling from Toronto...... if the weather holds out. Hopefully my trusty Acura Vigor will make it through this crappy winter storm we're having.
We're off to look for a new set of wheels for the wife..... (my idea to go to Detroit!!? The wife think I'm nuts..... she's most likely right.) I love the new Audi A4 and she's fond of it as well. There are a bunch of other cars we are going to look at as well, but I think we'll set into a new A4. Only fringin' thing is, 1.8T or 2.8???? I like the idea of being able to tinker and it sounds like the 1.8T is the way to go. But the 2.8 is suppost to be sweet too...... how the hell are we going to be able to make up our minds if we can't drive a chipped 1.8T for a fair comparison???? I've read every post on this conflict........ to no avail. Life is too complicated.........
*pulls the tringer!!*
T-MaN
ps.. sorry for bombing out this space with this whining..... but I feel better now!!

... then you don't need the chip to have the same power. At least European 1.8T cars (Passat, A3, A4) already have 180HP in the new model year.
- Stan

I doubt that the A4 will have the TT's 180hp engine. From the article on the TT on vwvortex.com, there are many engine modifications for the TT's 1.8 engine.

Hmm... Should I drop an extra $4,500 or not? Test drive the little 1.8 and see if you still feel that it is such a tough choice.

According to my fresh German car magazines, at least, and according to my Swiss dealer.
- Stan

personal opinion: for long-life durability, get the 2.8. Turbos to me generically have shorter life/more trouble, esp. if you juice them up. I put 132,000 miles on old 1990 Coupe Quattro; engine was fine when I sold it (so was whole car, actually).

I hope that the Detroit Auto show will clear up some of the thoughts about the 99.5 models. Truth is that if we go auto, it's likely the 2.8....... more I think about it, it's likely the 2.8 since the wife ain't the greatest driver with a stick...... (ok, no funny shyt about that comment ok !!!)
Maybe she'll go back to liking the Pathfinder and I'll get the A4 !! The idea of both of us having A4 didn't go over well. Maybe if I deny to her my love for the car and my need to own one personnally until she buys hers will get 2 A4 in the garage !!! Of course mine would be the faster of the two...... naturally....
*dreamer*

Tom
