I am having problems with my '97 A4 when it gets cold and usually in parking garages, my remote key unlock doesn't work occasionally and I end up having to use the key to unlock the door. Appearently that resets something because I will lock it up immeadiately (both with the remote and key) and it will unlock fine using the remote. This occurs in numuerous garages, so I don't think that someone else has a similar "code" to mine that might be causing the alarm to fail, plus no error codes come from the computer.
I've reported the problem to a dealer and he just tries the remote and of course it works for him and I get a "you idiot" look from him. I was just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem? Have you gotten it fixed? What was wrong?
Thanks in advance.

I've got the same intermittent problem on my '97 also. Sometimes the remote fails to work. It does seem to correlate somewhat with colder temperatures, although it's still pretty random. Like you, I use the key to unlock the car and that does seem to reset something and the remote will work on the next use. I've never had the dealer look into this as I feel it's a minor annoyance. I remember reading posts about this same problem over a year ago so it's nothing new.
Andy Hedin
'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Wett 1.0 Bar Chip, ABT Filter, Euro Headlights with
PIAA SuperWhite's, A!AvantGarde Grill, Smoked Side-Markers,
Clear Corner-Markers, Tint
This has happened to me a couple of times. Like you mentioned, once you use the key to open the door then the system seems to get reset and the remote works again. And it does seem to be related to cooler weather in some way. It has not been a real problem so I have not mentioned it to my dealer.
Dave - 97 1.8tm

If the service department can't duplicate the problem, it, of course, does not exist. People who drive Audi's are snobby rich folk who know nothing about technology and just enjoy making up these stories. ;-)
