I just got these numbers from Geico on an A4 1.8TQ and a Passat GLS, both with $500 deductibles (collision/comprehensive). I live in the west suburb of Chicago.
Audi A4: 87.36/month
Passat: 71.00/month
So the Audi is not much more expensive than a Passat (good news!). My question is if $500 is a reasonable number for the Audi. This will be my first car with comprehensive coverage. By the way, the rep from Geico told me the insurance for Camry/Accord is a bit higher than the Passat because German cars are stronger. Very interesting comments but I didn't ask her for specific numbers for the Japanese cars.
Any comments?
Another major reason why Camry and Accord's insuarance rates are much higher than its competitors is because of its stolen rates are much higher than any other cars in its classes. Camry and Accord have always been the top sellers of North America (I am in Canada), and its also the top 10 stolen vehicles in the US and Canada for the last couple of years. I am also agree that the Passat is much tighter than both the Accord and Camry. The body structure and safety features (side impact airbags are unavailable in our model, Euros got side airbag Camry) of the Passat is far excees its competitors
Tom
97 A4 1.8TQM
99 JETTA GLS 2.0

Has anyone bought any sort of extended warraty for the A4? From which company and how much? I wonder why VW has a much better pwr train warraty on their models.

VW only has a 2 year/ 24,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty compared to Audi's 3/50, plus if you live in North America, the maintenance is free also on the Audi during the warranty period.
David Hess
98.5 2.8QSTip
I always had 200 on comp and 500 on collission. I had to use the comp before on other cars for a cracked windshield and some one keying my brand new 92 Passat back in 1993. You are most likely to have to use comp than collission, at least you hope so. The payments are not that much more.
David Hess
98.5 2.8QSTip

The VW warranty is only for a 1st time owner, so it may effect resale value if you don't plan on keeping it too long.
The Audi warranty is not restrictive like the VW.
Rick K
96 A4 2.8
David,
VW's bumper-to-bumper also includes free maintenance and although shorter, the powertrain (including turbo) waranty is 10yr/100K.
