Anyone have any idea if this is possible?

you just need to configure whatever network protocol that you are going to use correctly.

..and then just set up the "direct connection thingy" and set win2k to host and make the 98 one a guest.

I've done 98 to 95 before, but wasn't sure if win2k would like 98. Thanks :)

refer here...Also do your own search. Their knowledge pages were recently updated, and have been VERY accurate lately...

This document talks about possible error codes when connecting between the 2 OSs you mentioned, so I would assume that it can be done.

Also, Make sure Win2k is the host, especially if you have NTFS as your file system.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q258299</a

DCC is WAY slow.... something like 9600 baud (practical limit on the parallel port) you might be able to tweak it. When I tried it (between two Win98 machines), it was horrible. I may have had it misconfigured, but I don't think so. You also have to buy the proper parallel port cable. A standard printer cable won't work, cause each end is different.

My recommendation would be to get network cards for each machine and a crossover cable. Or if you just want to swap files once, take out the hard drive from one machine and put it in the other temporarily.
Just my $0.02. My experience with DCC was less than pleasant.

I would personally get a couple of NICs (can get them really cheap and you never know when you might use them later for a broadband connection) and use a cross-over ethernet cable.
