My 1997 A4 1.8T randomly loses power usually in intersections after stopping for traffic light or stop sign. VERY DANGEROUS!! Dealer cannot fix after numerous tries. Two new ECU's and still can't find out what is wrong. Does anyone else have this loss of power problem?

No fuel injector replacement. They did replace spark plugs, clean fuel injectors, sandblasted values. Said they couldn't get the car to repeat.
I had this problem with my 1.8T it was resolved by replacing the throttle body idle valve.
If you check the archives this has been a relatively common occurrence.

Does the car Stall totally or does it go into a very poor running condition like it's running very rough, to rough to drive? What faults did the dealer get when they put it on the VAG 1550? You can e-mail me if it's easier.

The car never stalls. It loses ALL power and then regains. The dealer said that the engine computer was bad and replaced. It was ok for a while and then started again but this time the check engine light would flash and stay on and then sometimes go off after a day or two.
They put another computer in but it still has the problem. They said the computer registered a misfire.

I don't have the exact codes but my invoice says there were faults for multiple cyl misfiring, mil light off. They said to change gas! This did not work. Another time "test system with 1551" and found random misfire code. They said they cannot get it to duplicate.
The car accelerates forward and then loses all power! Then it takes off like nothing happened.
It started happening in fall when weather wasn't that bad so I don't think it's the cold.

The engine experiences a instantaneous load when attemptimg to accelerate with an automatic trans. This valve tries to kick in and increase engine speed. It can cause a bog and stall an automatic trans equipped car if defective. It's an easy change for a dealer. Tell him....Hey let's just try it!!!!! He can remove it and reinstall your old one if it doesn't fix the problem.
