I purchased my 96 A4 2.8Q in early December. I took it to the dealership for a little warranty work on Dec. 9th. There was a small but noticable vibration when turning the wheel. Thought I'd take it in for some preventive maintenance. It is Jan. 15th and I am still without my car. The mechanic told me that they have replaced 1000s of dollars worth of parts but still can't solve the problem. He has spoken to an Audi rep. and was told to replace part by part until the problem is solved. The mechanic's next step is to replace the front differential. After explaining all the steps he has taken to try to fix my car, the mechanic asks, "Do you like any other car on the lot?" He flat out told me he has no idea what is wrong with my car and when it will be ready. WHAT SHOULD I DO? The mechanic has told my salesman that I should look for another car. What should I expect from my salesman, or better yet, what should I demand?
If they are willing to replace the car for a comparable car for free, do it. It is very rare that a dealer is this cooperative.
Did you buy the car from the dealer? If so, make the dealer either find you a comprable A4 and flat out exchange it or see what Audi is willing to do for you. They have been great with me but I needed little stuff like stering wheel, stereo, brakes...
Good Luck.
Mark
1996 A4 2.8

they are the ones losing a lot of money trying to fix my car. They aren't doing me any favors yet. They only have 98 and 99 A4s on the lot now. Even those dont have the options I have with my 96. (2.8Q, leather, bose, power seats, wood trim, automatic, only 18k miles)
When the dealer asks "Do you like any other car on the lot?", it sounds to me like they are saying they will replace yours with another one if you find one you like. I'd take them up on it.
Upgrading the stereo is better then the Bose!
