I posted a while back that I had noticed my trunk took a number of seconds to unlock after pressing the remote button, and other people apparently had this problem as well. Well, I am glad to report that the problem is actually a problem.
I brought my car in for service today to get the new remote antennae (yeah! Now I can be more than 5 feet from my car and unlock it!), and reported the trunk problem. The dealer tested the vacuum and the tubing, and found a split in the tube. They fixed it without retubing (the service says "found line split, heat line to splice"), and now the trunk opens at the same time as the doors. So maybe others have this same problem. Mine started when I
went up to Tahoe, so maybe it is a cold/ice thing. But glad to say it is fixed, for free, on first time bringing it in.
Hopefully this helps others.

I had mine fixed similarly, and the remote now unlocks the car from 30 paces. The dealer at first denied that this fix was covered by a TSB, until, that is, I printed it out from here. If you haven't had this work done, make sure it is completed during your next service.

found it when I took the control unit out to do the antenna upgrade. The split was right on the nipple on the control unit (there are two, one for the driver and gas filler doors, one for the rest of the system). I tried to force the tube back on, which just caused the tube to split again. I think maybe the nipples are a little large and the tube just a little easy to split. I used a 2 inch piece of quarter inch fuel line to fix mine, it fit well over both the tube and the nipple.

I had 2 leaks and fixed them with 5/16" windshield washer hose; no trip to the dealer req'd. 8^) BTW - if you have a leak, you can track it down while locking (that's when I heard mine the most). Just don't activate the vacuum pump too many times in a row or it will shut down (overheat?). I thought I broke it, but I waited a bit and it worked again. That was 6+ months ago and it still works fine.
CraigB

What model years does this TSB cover. I checked archives and was unclear as to when and if this was solved. I just picked up my car and I have to say the range is less than stellar.
Eric
99 2.8QStip

"Improved transmitter started production 3/98 VIN 8DWA128920"
I have .jpg images of the TSB that someone posted, but I'm not sure how to post them myself. They probably are in the archives somewhere.
Is the transmitter they're refering to the Folding Key remote?

Wouldn't mind a bit more distance, but this is definitely far enough that you can't complain about it. And yeah, my service advisor needed some convincing to actually check if the service bulletin existed, but once he went and asked someone he ordered the part no problems.
