When I get my A4 I definately want to put a body kit on it. To me, it seems unfinished..I've been looking at different companies and what they offer. At www.vwsportusa.com/styling/index.htm, there are three kits that I really like. I did only like Projectzwo's kit(minus the wheels). But now I like the Kerscher and the NoWak Design kit also. I would like to hear what other people think as well...
QUESTIONS:
1) Will these kits fit the 99.5 body as well as the 99's?
2) How much do each of these kits cost? (I'm lazy, I don't want to call until I'm ready to buy) If anyone knows, that would be great!
3)Anyone have TSW Trophy Rims(17")? have pictures?
Thanks
Christian

I took this pic at the Colorado A4 meeting in 8/98. These are 17" Trophies on an "old" S4 (also, note the drilled rotors and P-car calipers). I thought they looked good on this car (Steve S. has a pic of the whole car). Not sure if anyone has put them on an A4 yet. Good luck on the body kit, etc.
CraigB

I have a Casablanca White A4 with the A! System S kit. My kit is similar to the kit on Cathleen's car, but I don't have the A! mirrors.
The Nowak kit, to the best of my knowledge, was not released at the time I bought my bodykit. If it had been, I would have considered it seriously. I would say yes, the better-quality 99 kits will fit 99.5 cars. Why the better-quality kits? Worse-quality kits won't fit *either* car well.
Personally, I believe the Nowak kit, the Projektzwo kit, and the A!Avantgarde kit are the most complete and of the best quality. I've seen all the pieces raw in various bodyshops and, to be honest, the A!Avantgarde kit and the Projektzwo kit seem of better quality. I saw a Nowak kit the other day that looked, admittedly, like an amateur install job. However, the edges looked like they needed work. Just because this guy didn't know how to install the kit doesn't mean your pieces won't need work too. Keep that in mind. These aren't finished pieces, and they certainly don't arrive "ready to paint". One more thing: buy insurance on the package for shipment, and get a copy of the insurance detail faxed to you.
To give you an idea of what this entails, most of thse pieces are made from mass-layup frame molds. The fiberglass work is not pristine. I don't know if you've ever seen the Porsche factory moldings that go onto the 911 for the factory upgrade, but they're ready to prime and paint. They're perfect. The aftermarket stuff for the A4 is rough. In my case, the pieces arrived cracked (due to shipment damage). The molds weren't of very good quality, and my shop needed to sand down, refinish, patch, and work over all the pieces. Once that was completed, it looked decent, but still not as good as factory.
You're talking about a thousand dollars (US) in labor to get the A! kit I received to look factory. Did I pay for it? Of course, because I wanted it to look good. The ZWO kits I've seen have been of a little better overall quality. The cutoff points and seam marks from the mold aren't as apparent, and can be sanded more easily. There are only two or three cracks in the glass of each piece, versus five or six on other pieces from other manufacturers (A!Avantgarde and others).
When I say crack, I mean any line in the fiberglass that is a stress, spiral, or torque crack that will make the paintwork less than factory-perfect. If the job will be less than factory-perfect, don't accept the product and don't sanction the work. Just my advice. Have them go over it one more time with the 3M pads to get out that one last pin mark. It's worth it.
As a school friend told me once while his Boxster body kit was being put on, "You must hold the shop working on your finish and paint to factory-perfect work. If for no other reason, then because factory-perfect is never quite the same as 'perfect' anyway."
I'm not an agent of any bodykit manufacturer or vendor. I do not act on their behalf, and my posts only reflect my experiences with these products as a non-expert. The quote is from my friend Ryan, and I wish him luck on the AP French Literature exam later this year.
Cameron

1. I too like the projektzwo kit, and have seen it in person. With a kit, though, you'll need larger wheels (17" or 18") to make it look proper.
2. 99.5 kit info won't be available until after the 99.5 is released. The front looks different (the paint goes down even lower), as does the rear. The sides look mostly the same, but there may be slightly different connectivity points.

>josh<
98.5 2.8qms
