3 friends and I have a competition going to keep everyone focused and determined, but this is the first time I've really tried to quit in a long time. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. All I can think of is the advice Mark Twain gave in an interview when asked about smoking...
"Quiting smoking is the easiest thing in the world, I've done it a hundred times..."
(forgive the bad paraphrase if I blew it.)
Thanks!

despite what you've been told its all in your mind. If your ready to quit then you will. If you fail this time its OK. Don't try and do the subsitiute (nicorette/nicotrol) route. It just prolongs your craving. Try for a week to only have 1 or 2 a day and then after a week just quit cold. First week is uncomfortable but after that it just gets easier.
Good Luck!

Like SilverA6q said, it's all in your mind. I smoked a pack a day for 2 years, and then about 10 months ago, I just stopped. It wasn't the easiest thing, but I just sat there and thought to myself, "why am I doing this?". I have no reason! I'm not getting high or anything, I'm just nervously destroying lung tissue because there's nothing better to do? Never again...
The main reason I smoked so much was becuase of routines. One in the car on the way to school, one before class, one after every meal, etc... Now I have replaced some of them with more sensible things. Now I have a mint on the way to school (here's where the audi helped, because I would never smoke in it, unlike my old truck).
It's not easy, but it can be done, no matter how addicted you are. As far as nicotine patches/gum/etc, I have no idea whether they work or not. I just knew they wouldn't work for me.

I've heard they work well. I wish I could've gotten a caffeine patch when I gave it up. Realize that in order for your brain chemistry to return totally to normal, you have to be off for at least 6 months.

Something like a hobby or an activity to keep your mind off it.
Mine was a woman. I was so focused on her, I completely forgot smoking. (literally, 2 weeks after meeting her I realized I hadn't been smoking). I will soon be marrying her.
Other hints are gum and candy. Eat when you have an inkling for a fix.
Just put your mid to it and it is possible. Tell your smoking friends to F*** off if they try and coerce you to light up. Make it to 2 weeks and you'll be fine
Good luck.

when you quit, your brain stream still thinks it needs that nicotine in order to maintain a sense of stability. you need to flush that out with a cleansing tea. well in theory it works, but at least it's a good pancea even if it doesn't work :>)

And always keep in mind that there isn't a better thing you could be doing for your health.
Best of luck.

Had a butt last weekend, but it's been about 2 months. Just don't go out boozing anymore and you're all set...cuz when the alcohol be blurring your vision and your brain, there is usually a lung dart close by.
Good luck...I almost quit last summer when I burned my white weather stripping just about cherry height above the window vent...but the urge was too great to keep puffin.
Now I've resorted to a lipper or 2 every day to hold me over and help with that daily superdump ;^)

It's really important that you stay off for that long. You will likely experience symptoms of withdrawl to some degree during that time, but after that you should be OK. You'll need to avoid contact from here on out.
