The wife talked me into entering a 90 mile, two day, bike ride for charity. Did a 44 mile warm-up Saturday. Let me just say "I NEED A ROAD BIKE!" Hauling my mountain bike with wide knobbies up all of the hills liked to have killed me. I may have to back out.<p>98.5 A4 1.8TQT Melange/Onyx

Slicks are great, pick some up at your local shop!

Although you'll miss the fun of blowing by roadbikes with those knobbies singing.....

try em, you'll like em....

As Aldo said, get slicks. The the narrowest, highest pressure tires you can find for the rim size. If you have any suspension, put it on it's stiffest setting and finally make sure the seat is correctly adjusted. Most mtn. bikes have the seat too low for optimal peddling because they need the clearance. You still won't be "blowing by roadbikes" but these things will make it easier. Also, you might consider clipless pedals and appropriate shoes. They'll help a lot.

Want to buy a used, late 80's Cannondale road bike? First $300 takes it (I bought a Litespeed).

The Litespeed is a road bike actually. It's a Classic with a Look carbon fork, Ultegra components and Mavic Open Pro wheels. Pretty basic components but there's not much to break.

Ibis makes sweet bikes though they're a bit pricey. I have a Klein Pulse mtb that I ought to dust off and ride.
