A friend of mine can't decide between the 2.8Q or the 1.8T Q. If he can get 220hp with the 2.8 great(and normally aspirated), but he is interested in the 1.8T if the 255-300hp ranges are reliable. Anyone have any first hand experiences with some highly tuned 1.8T's? Thank in advance.
PM3
www.geocities.com/motorcity/pit/7144

Pablo, have him get the 2.8 and then add the Supercharger! He'd then get 280hp!
But make sure it is not automatic, cause the torque converter could blow at anything over 240hp.

I'll say that the power seems pretty decent at 1 bar with the K24 turbo... more power just requires a turn of the wastegate. In terms of accelaration, it's pretty close to my brother's '97 M3 3.2 (supercharged, Turner flywheel, 3.46 diff) while running 16-17 psi of boost.

The TAP Powerpage lists a different turbo unit for Stage VII - is there a reason why you have the K24, Jon ? Or is TAP now using the K24 for Stage VII ?

I wish if I could tell you why I don't have an RS2 turbo.. the truth of the matter is that I'm not sure if the K24 I have is modified or not (I don't think so though) but I found out recently that an RS2 is a hybrid of a K26/K27. I've had my fair share of bad experiences and frustration from the folks down at TAP so I've given up communicating with them..

I think your question is valid... after all, all these mods were for one goal: SPEED!!! Let me describe it this way: if you are talking about "seat-of-the-pants" feeling, as in that power feeling which pushes you back into the seat, I really don't feel a serious push... then again, this matter is subjective.... At least, when compared to my brother's supercharged M3. 3.2, you would think that the M3 would whip this car so hard... but in fact, the performance is quite close...
In terms of performance comparisons with other cars (I would assume most would ask how it compares with a stock M3), my A4 does have an ability to pull away "convincingly" though I would not describe it as an "M3 killer". I'll have to wait till I change to an upgraded clutch before I can really tell how hard it pulls cos right now, the clutch is slipping like mad!!
