Greetings;
Let me begin by saying that my A4 has provided me with an extraordinary driving experience thus far. I've never felt so solid and stable on the road !! I've had the car less than 36 hours now, and I've already put over 200 miles on it just driving around town. The car is an '99 A4 1.8tqMS with sunroof and trip computer. It was ordered on 9/4/98 and delivered 12/18/98.
Power comes on plenty strong, and if it is supposed to get even better after break-in, I'll be a very happy camper indeed. I'm still working on shifting smoothly with the A4's clutch being the way it is.
The handling is unbelievable !! I find myself not at all bothered by the slightly vague steering center. So far I haven't thrown the car into any hairpins, but I have never felt anxious about taking any curves encountered so far.
The red dashboard and instrument lighting is out of this world. I like to tell my passengers "welcome aboard!!" When I do upgrade the stereo, it'll most likely be a Blaupunkt Toronto unit which can match the red illumination (and which is a pretty decent unit too by the way ;*) The trip computer is a great gadget, and I like the fact that its display can be turned off to clean up the dash display for long drives.

Some quirks:
1.) I hear resonant vibrations thru the dash when playing certain music; not sure if it's the dash itself or some loose items in glovebox or storage cubby.
2.) The headlamps are either aimed wrong or just plain awful. The beam pattern is a mess.
3.) Radio reception is fuzzy, but sound quality while playing cassettes is fine.
4.) The lines of the rear wheel arches are not quite perfect; there's an offset of a few mm between the bumper and the fender. I wonder if my dealer can adjust this?
5.) In the first 50 miles the ride on the freeway seemed a little bumpy; later on it smoothed out. Tires need to break in ?
----------
more as it comes along.. perhaps I'll go out for a drive now
-K.
