Hey all,
I'm so tired of renting a helmet. I want my own, so that I know that it always fits, and where it has been. At the same time, I have the opportunity to buy a fellow AWer's stoptech brakes. The money is close to the same. So, helmet or brakes?

I'd say helmet first, but brakes are more fun. After all, you can use your head to make enough money and do brakes, but you can't use your brakes to make more money for helmet later.
You can always make an argument that with the big brakes you don't need no stinkin' helmet :o) no pun intended.

Chances are you won't get many opportunities to buy them that cheaply.
But I pulled out my plastic BMWCCA card, not the ACNA piece of paper (card).

They look cool, but it's only in an extreme case (where a car can overheat its brakes) where a bigger setup might help. Tests have shown that cold stopping is no better and often worse; and you need to overheat stock brakes before considering upgrading.
Get the helmet. You'll be doing that eventually anyway.
PS: Based on your mods, a pretty set of StopTechs would sure look nice. I just wouldn't expect them to make a major difference at the track.

I tend to cook my brakes pretty bad on the track, and by the end of a 20 minute session, the brake fade is fairly significant.

Also, don't be shy about spending $$$ to get a light helmet. The weight difference is pretty amazing between the cheap ones and expensive ones ($700-$1000). Your neck will thank you for it.

yeah, my 2004 A8 1.8TQ was eating 1 fresh set of track pads at every event. So given you're tracking same car I did... the BBK deal starts to make more sense.
But I went to a totally <a href="http://forums.audiworld.com/performance/msgs/77137.phtml">different direction</a> to solve my brake problem.
