Somebody was campaigning an A4 in USTCC a couple years back, but only made a few races; didn't have too much success. I would think the car would be ready to go run GrandAm SGS.

But Steve's car does not look like the Motorkars A4.

Here's the info from the GARRA "results" from the event:

Drivers: Legg/ Ellinger
Car: LM Racing/Audi A4
Sponsor: Mattern's Road and Race

Finished 51st overall and 17th in class (Super Touring).

The event was the "Grand-Am Cup 200" held the day before the Rolex 24.

http://www.grand-am.com/Events/SessionResults.asp?SessionID=440</a

I know they got bumped up a class. But even in the higher class, they were still doing well, podium finishes and wins I think on all occasions except a DNF on a mechanical.

it was being co-developed in the final stages of the street car's design with the idea of it being a factory-available race car.

Pretty highly developed factory race car (as the results seem to indicate).

It's funny that for all the R&D they put into that car in the shop and on the chassis/suspension dyno it didn't seem to work all that well its first time out on the track. Didn't they put an IRS in "Boy Racer"?

yeah, it was funny how this car was so "perfect" until they got it to the track and had to start from almost scratch with the setup.

...the drag guys want no part of the IRS I'm sure.

The theory is sound: a watts link or in some mustangs a panhard conversion (Thank you Chevrolet) will create a lower roll center. In the case of the panhard mustangs, the rearend pushes the car from further forward than the IRS ever could which means you can get on the throttle sooner. Once you've figured out how much camber and toe you want to build into a Ford 8.8 it'll do just fine.
