Since we do all the races at night, I've been looking for a good in-car lap timer that had a display that was completely legible at night (self-powered).

Finally found the AIM MyChronLight TG and installed it the other day. Super device, the type can be projected blue on white or white on blue and has 2000 lap memory and a bunch of bells and whistles.

Haven't used it on the track yet but played around with it in the garage and it has several features including the ability to set up split time transmitters or "blank" out other transmitters.

This photo is blown-out but the type is crystal clear and the numbers are something like 1" tall.

This is our dash at night, timer is velcroed in front of the steering wheel (though it has threaded holes for hard-mounting it).

This was the only US site where I saw it for sale (on the web) but I ordered it 2-day and it came in 2 days. If you don't need the backlit one, the battery-powered one looks nice...>

MyChron

...how much it costs, as there doesn't seem to be a price for the IR transmitter.

Whoever to be writing the manual may grasp firmly not key design constructs of the English language. Ouch. Hurts to read.

It's all translated from Italian heh. The "instructions" don't make that much sense either but fortunately the menus on the unit itself are intuitive.

We have an AIM stopwatch which (though also suffereing from instructionitis) is exceptional and has been reliable.

It's ability to simultaneously time 4 cars is handy in enduros.

But it comes with what looks to be a much nicer display.

and it's plastic. Pretty sure it has more memory though and it has some useless but nice features like "track name" and session count-down timer and when you do your best lap it says:

BEST :-)

heh. For me it was the backlight option that put it over the top but it's a slimmer package than a HotLap. Gotta see what happens at the track if someone has a hot-lap receiver set up.
