if you've ever done a track day there, this is what it's like in a Formula Atlantic:

WMV file

View Full Version : Nice lap of Sears Point video... NASA racer 01-22-2005, 06:35 PM if you've ever done a track day there, this is what it's like in a Formula Atlantic:

WMV file

s4wood 01-23-2005, 01:50 PM Not use to that...must have that thing called "grip". :-) Mark Dalen 01-23-2005, 04:31 PM Intereseting comment. I don't know the track real well, but in my limited experience there, his apexes appear right on the mark for what I learned. s4wood 01-23-2005, 04:42 PM I have never taken a street car through the carousel that close to the inside that early. I just noticed the turn ins were earlier than I would feel comfortable in ..in a street car. Now, if I had a Stohr with slicks...I would definitely be experimenting with earlier and earlier apexes. P. Bauer 01-23-2005, 09:30 PM and that video just goes to show how damn slow street cars are... I was pulling 2:06s in my S4. Nogaro 01-23-2005, 11:25 PM

Also driving style of tin tops and open wheeler.

KKelly 01-24-2005, 08:48 AM Sweet video. Other than turn 6, his line was exactly what I was driving on Saturday with Trackmasters. Turned a best of 2:02 in my M5 (not so bad for 3800lbs at Sears) and had a Porsche Turbo bite the tire wall really, really hard in Turn 10 right in front of me. Of course, I hadn't started the video camera and it was still on pause that session, doh. s4wood 01-24-2005, 09:09 AM 2:02...come one..you can do better with that 4,000 lb beast. How you doing Kev? NASA racer 01-24-2005, 09:13 AM I've never driven anything that could go flat-out through 10. Only ever raced the Civic there and we'd have to dab the brakes! KKelly 01-24-2005, 10:45 AM If for nothing else, to keep your pants clean. I guess if you had the grip you could work up to it. Supposedly, that Porsche got on the throttle at exit and the boost sent him around. He did not run wide just spun and hit the tires backwards. At one point, the car was vertical, nose to the ground and I saw a flash of the underside of the car. I was just hoping he didn't come back across and trying to dodge his wing. KKelly 01-24-2005, 10:50 AM Doing okay Steve and yourself? Never see you around now that you are racing the Miata. Actually, I am pretty sure I could get to consistent 2:01's but I don't want to drive it that much faster as it is my street car. 4000lbs with about 330hp on 255 PZeros (Dinan suspension so only about 200lb springs and Bilsteins). There is only so fast you can go through certain corners with that kind of inertia. I am sure a really good driver could get to 1:57-1:58 but you would have to be hanging the car out more than I want to. Also, Sears is not friendly to my beast versus say Laguna but it is so, so, so much fun. I just love that track. Mark Dalen 01-24-2005, 05:44 PM That was, BTW, a 1:28.x according to Ren's Pi system which is UNDER the existing FA lap record. On top of that, the car was not handling especially well. Ren has a 'bit' of talent. Jason @ Streetwerke 01-26-2005, 09:04 PM Ming 2.7T 01-27-2005, 11:29 AM There is a swell mid track, when you turn in early the car compresses(slows down)as it hits the grade and swell, and sets you up for a correct apex to the 2nd part. Made up alot of time on cars there. I have a video of the line Randy took around the track but cant host it, its 34mb.. THe carousel, he also turned in early, guess its the race line?? instead of the driver school line?? Seemed to work. Ming 2.7T 01-27-2005, 11:39 AM Hope it works. in my A6. the car he passes is the 2 bennett modified S4.

try link to vid

|
