On my way to school this morning my worst nightmare came true. I was cruising at
about 50-55 m.p.h. in a 45 m.p.h. zone
when some old lady (70 yrs?) pulled out
in front of me as I was in the right lane
of traffic. I moved into the left lane
to avoid her and she kept drifting right
into the left lane completely oblivious to
my horn. I slammed on my brakes but to no
avail I smacked her Plymouth Breeze
on her left rear tail light. My black A4
got the damage on the right corner of my
hood. My hood is crumpled, my front bumper
is garbage, and my front right fender has a
big dent in it. Thankfully the air bags did
not deploy since I had slowed down before
impact. Her car only had a busted tail light
and a broken rear bumper. If she wasn't a woman and she wasn't so old I definitely would have
laid into her but I was forced to calm my boiling blood and wait for the police. I only have one
question to ask and that is do I get a loaner while my car is in the shop?
Jake

The same thing happened to me, almost exactly - except I was on a motorcycle.
Be happy you didn't get hurt! Absolutely, her insurance is responsible for a rental from the day of the accident until your car is fixed completely and returned, to your satisfaction. Or if you have alternate transportation, you get just get a payout - but it isn't that much money. Be careful, they might say "Your car is a compact so here's a Neon." When my Maxima was hit (different story) they tried it with me but I lobbied for a better car than the Neon. (Accord)
Please I don't want to start a flame war over this "loaner" thing! Just fight a fair fight for a good rental. Be careful of those adjusters too... they'll screw you while you're not looking.
Mark

I had an accident with my A4 almost a month ago to the day (November 18). I was doing about 40-45mph in a 35mph zone on a one lane, two way street and an older fellow pulled out of a driveway from the opposite side of the street, totally oblivious to me. Despite my braking we collided and my car skidded into a parked car shaving it wiht my rear passenger side wheel well. This is a bummer because they had to repair and repaint it (can't take it off like a front fender). His '85 Chrysler suffered minor damage to his front bumper. My car was in the shop for 3 weeks, mainly due to the special ordering of some parts. I got it back last friday, but it turns out that the windshield washer tank was damaged in the accident (it's right behind the bumper where the impact was), and is now leaking. The rental that I got was a bare bones Corolla. I was so crushed and in shock that I really didn't care what rental car I was getting. I was treated very well by my insurance company (here we have no fault insurance). Anyway if you're getting yours fixed at an independent garage/body shop make sure to ask for the invoices to the genuine audi parts. (for your warranty). Also mention to your mechanic to use the Audi tool to remove the wheel caps, or else they'll struggle with a screwdriver, break your caps and damage your rims. Ask them to verify that there are no leaks to your power steering and windshield washer tanks (im assuming your damage was to the driver's side).
Good luck.
Gus

I had almost the same experience last April. This guy pulls onto a 4 lane between some waiting cars without being able to see traffic from either direction. I swerved over 2 lanes into the oncoming lanes (no one was coming otherwise I would not have done this) and his still collects my right front. This guy had his head so far up his ##s that it wasn't funny. Some jerk had left space for him and waved him into traffic.
The damage wasn't all that severe to look at it but the bill was over $6,000, this was twice was his old 626 was worth. I bet his insurance company was pissed.
