View Full Version : How many people notice that power steering fluid is lower after track events...any reasons for this? s4wood 01-23-2002, 07:18 AM Mine is way low...before the event....I ended up topping it off...overfilled actually...just a bit...now...two days later...reservoir almost empty...power steering pump making lots of noise. Bueller? Corey S 01-23-2002, 07:22 AM I wouldn't doubt it's getting close to that during a track event. Plus, if you leave it open, it evaporates!!! If you track your Audi, do keep a close eye on your power steering level. Audiboy 01-23-2002, 08:32 AM regular auto store since I cannot find a 10mm anywhere. They checked the pressure capacity for me and it was well over 500psi. That'll do. And here's the trick. The return line has lots of pressure up to an inch before the reservoir. That's because there are two restrictors clamped in the line around that area to keep system pressure up. Well, I left one out and on the other I increased the diameter of the hole slightly (maybe from a stock 3mm size to 5mm) to relieve some pressure. This causes slightly heavier steering feel, but in the end, the steering oil feels cooler, no more changing levels (no seepage and expansion), and I think I may have gained 1hp from freeing up the power steering pump pressure ;P I think the Audi power steering line is the weakest link. Greg's line blew up right at that spot as I was following him in Sear's Point 2 years ago I think. In case you have to clean up that dried up oil on the fenders and suspension from previous seepage, WD40. Nogaro 01-23-2002, 09:08 AM Time for the dealer! Liam in Montreal 01-23-2002, 11:57 AM on my friend's neon, it boils over after each run so he has to keep adding some. regards, Liam SteveK-O (stock!) 01-23-2002, 04:57 PM I had a lot of fluid on my right front wheel at the last QC event at Road America. My normal leakage is fairly low. I checked into replacement racks but did not do it. Steve jyoteen 01-23-2002, 06:40 PM I guess it's easier to clean it up than to replace the PS pump RobertZ 01-23-2002, 07:43 PM I topped off the PS fluid before my drive to the event. Checked out ok before the track time. Before I left for home had add just a bit. Monday started to hear a new noise., now the noise is worse. I am going to the dealer in the morning.
