I'm in the Philadelphia, PA area and I'm interested in getting started in track racing. However, I have no experience in this area and I don't know what I should to do to get started. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

He didn't start in karts. Rather, he went to driver safety schools and auto-crosses. Then he joined SCCA and other clubs and got involved in their racing series/programs. Moved on up and got noticed by winning events. Eventually did well enough on a national level to attract the interest of Porsche.
This isn't as easy as it sounds, and took him 12 years (?) or so at the least. But that is the way to go. Driver Safety Schools to start (and see if you have an aptitude for it) and then SCCA, etc.

none of these...plus I'm new to the area. =) If I did want to do autocross, how would I go about getting information for it? Thank you.

I am quite interested in starting out with the Solo I/II events but how would I go about doing that? What's the procedure? Thank you...

if you know which group is near your place, give them a try. its as easy as going there, falling in line, pay about $25, remove loose items from your car, put more air in your tires and youre ready to go. i started this way, i came alone, i didnt know anyone of those race junkies. after a few minutes hanging around, you'll notice some folks mumbling/whispering/giggling, those are your new friends - the novices, typically identified with a big 'N' in their car numbers. you'll figure out everything from there...giggle with some or raise a hand to get a pro to drive you
if you want to try Englishtown NJ, come over this weekend. directions are in the website, we're North NJ region

http://www.autox4u.com</a

It's the site for the Philadelphia Region SCCA. It should have a schedule for autocrosses and contacts for more information. It might also have information for road racing.

Philadelphia Region SCCA

Step 1: Join the SCCA (membership applications available on their web site).
Step 2: Go to any event in your area.
Step 3: Buy a copy of the "General Competition Rules", available from SCCA.
I've never attended an SCCA Solo I or II event, but many of the road course races (Club Racing) are not "spectator events"; i.e., they're not open to the public unless you've been pre-registered as crew for a team that's racing (insurance problems). Once you're there, look around, ask a lot a questions, and enjoy yourself. I think you'll find that everyone - drivers, crew, SCCA workers - will be more than glad to answer any question (except perhaps, what front camber they're running that day).
If by chance you happen to live somewhere in the Midwest or Northeast and would like to attend a Club Racing National, send me an email message; we'd be glad to have another crew member for a day. Normally qualifying is on Saturday, and Sunday is raceday. We'll be racing at Gateway (St. Louis) this weekend, but we race from Wisconsin to Oklahoma, Kansas to Ohio. BTW, we're racing a Formula Contintental (2L motor, open wheel, wings); this is the 2nd fastest SCCA class with 1 min 26 sec laps at Mid-Ohio. Only Formula Atlantics are faster.

for the great info. I'll definitely check out the website as well as gain more information. The only problem...my car is on the train waiting to arrive in the city all the way from the West coast. Hopefully it'll be here within the next two weeks. Once it arrives, I'll definitely try to get in on the scene. I'll be appearing back and forth on this site for information. Thanks again.

Thanks for the info. I will be applying for that SCCA membership soon.
As for the club nationals, I think I'll probably need some experience and not get ahead of myself. It should be lots of fun tho. Thanks again.
