I left my door unlocked with the windows down. The alarm wasn't armed. After about 5 minutes the alarm went off. I Turned the Alarm off with the Remote and left it unarmed again. After a couple of minutes the alarm armed itself. When the wind picked up the alarm went off again. This would happen time and time again. One night I decided to leave the alarm off with the doors unlocked and the windows rolled up. The next morning the alarm was still off, It didn't arm itself automatically. My guess would have been with the windows down it automatically arms itself, if the windows are rolled up it wouldn't arm itself. But today I left the car unlocked with the windows rolled up. When I went out to the car an hour later the Alarm was on. Can someone clarify this please? When I expected the system to arm itself it didn't. When I expected it not to arm itself it did.

Tony 98.? 1.8QTM Crazy Alarm
To the best of my knowledge, the alarm will re-arm itself if you unlock the car and don't open any doors within about 30 seconds, which explains one of the situations in your post. However, I am unaware of any other conditions under which it will arm itself.
I once got out of the car to run back inside the house to get something. I left the keys in the ignition (but off), and when I closed the door, it locked and the alarm system was armed. I haven't been able to repeat that, but since then I'm leary of leaving the keys in the ignition and closing the door while I'm outside of the car.
Kyle
Thanks fo the reply. The alarm seems inconsistant. Your alarm Armed itself with the Keys in the ignition once but wouldn't do it again, Strange. Oh well, It's still a Great Car.

i don't have a remote, but the system is designed so if u don't u cant lock the doors from the inside and then close them. U need to use the key to lock the doors from the outside.
once (any only once) i was able to lock the car from the inside, and then close the door, and the vehicle was locked!!

i was lucky, the keys were in my hand.
1996 a4 2.8 qm
w
