I've seen a car nearly totaled at a BMW event and regular auto insurance covered it.
My AAA insurance exclusion states that insurance will not cover if the car has an accident in a timed or competitive event. Since the schools are neither, it is not excluded.
Nevertheless, a one car/driver-at-fault accident is never a good claim to have to make.

I attended a Quattro Club event at Roebling Road Raceway. Prior to departing I called my insurance company to see if I was covered. I explained that this was a driving school and not a timed competitive racing event, but it did take place on a race track. She told me I was covered and to go have fun! Now if I said it was a timed event, I'm really not sure if my insurance company would cover me. I suggest that you call your insurance company.
