Though the Boster S's did well in SS, and our old Audi Buddy Joe Goeke did good in AS in a Boxster 2.7 in AS, the results were absolutely DISMAL to us in Audi and BMW land! In SS, the M Coupes were in 21st and 36th (Josh Sirota - that low???), and in AS there was an S4 in 35th and a TT in 37th, with Mark Sipe in his Z3 Coupe as the fastest BMW (beating M3's) comming in 18th! At least in SM David Schotz came in 4th for a trophy in his S4.

But the real shakeup was the S2000's! Looks like we will all be in for some razzing now :)

SCCA National Solo II Results

The Pro was Awesome, and the Audi was doing well, Sunday I didn't drive so well, and fell back, but had enough points during the year to hang on for 2nd Overall! Also, the nice unmentioned part, was the Street Challenge Shootout, where they took the top 8 Street Touring Cars, in all classes, and had a runoff! I was in the Zone, eliminating all but the final round, was up by .1 on the left course, and we switched sides, Grady in a Honda (there is a 1.5 second head start for him!) came back beating me by .3 tenths! My run was still great... and I was happy to have eliminated the Twin Turbo Supra that won the Overall this year! Nationals was much tougher on the audi... no drag race start to spot me a couple tenths! :-)... and carrying that 3600 lbs around for 50+ seconds... on 255's just wasn't enough to compete with the other cars... all weighing 300+ lbs less than ours (some 800lbs less), and have 275's... to 315's for Tires!!! I felt like we brought a butter knife to a gun fight! The car was working great, and the APR Race chip Ver 2. was AMAZING... it was spinning both inside front tires around the turns under boost!... The KW Variant 3 suspension was good... but still not enough spring rate... they are something like 700 and 750.. I am talking to my dad about running 900+ lbs in front... the rear is fine... but that 2200lbs on the nose is devastating! A special thanks goes out to Kumho Tires, APR Racing, and HPA Motorsports for working with us in such a short time frame. We started with this car in February in AS, and then quickly realized we needed to make a class change. SM seemed the only hope for the car, and with only 5 months prep we got the car very close to Nationally Competitive. The S4 is a FUN Car! Also... Special Thanks to Scottsdale Audi.. Who have worked night after night to get parts in as necessary! Thanks Everyone!

depends on the class. But those little buggers are always going to beat us in autox.

Pam Eames placed 3rd in GSL and Jean Kinser trophied in 13th in GS! She would have won GSL if she hadn't run with the open class!

How can the Toyota Supra and Chevy Camaro run in Street Mod? The class if supposed to be for 4 seater sedan based and NOT sports car based vehicles. Both of these cars are clearly sports car based! They even finished 1-2 in SM. I am in the process of setting up my 180TTQ for SM next year and will have it at as many National Events as possible. It looks like I will be at 5 of the 9 National Tour events! I am going to try out Pro Solo as well.

Back to the Supra and Camaro. The Camaro is built on a purpose built frame called the F-Body! This frame is used in only the Camaro and Firebird, neither of which is even close to a sedan! The Supra as far as I know is a frame unto itself.

Do you know why these two cars are allowed in this class? The rules even mention that the Datsun/Nissan Z Cars are NOT allowed! The Toyota Supra was created to squash the Z Cars! This makes no sense to me.

Larry... you are right. The Supra definately doesn't make sense. And wasn't a surprise to see win. The F-Body's, and Mustangs are sedans and although the spirit of them is sports cars, I think they fall into the category. I think the future of the class will be very small compacts with high HP, and big tires. And then big Muscle Car Groundpounders. Good luck in the class! It was a fun year!

According to a Grassroots Motorsports article, the SCCA is soliciting opinions to establish just such a class. Feedback to 303 779-6622. Local regions may choose to adopt their own sports car SM class.

The Mustang is built on a sedan frame, where the Camaro/Firebird are built on purpose built frames. To me that goes agains the rules for the Camara/Firebird. I have read the short rules for SM and all it basically says is the car must be based on a sedan platform, this obviously excludes the Camaro/Firebird and Supra!

AFAIK, Curtis Eames was in the trophies after Tuesday, and the captain of the U-107 was satisfied with his 28th place finish considering that his personal submarine was running it's first event after switching from BFG's to Kumhos. [I know the captain very well, :-) and it takes him a few events to get back into the groove whenever he changes his car.]

Time to start looking into exhaust mods and shock valving, since the 2001 ProSolo season opener is only 5 months away.....
