My clutch finally started squeaking a couple weeks after Summit Point. I replaced it last week with Motul 600 - the squeaking stopped almost immediately. It's weird that the ATE fluid causes the clutch to squeak. Motul 600 cost me $20 a liter.
John G

I want the high boiling point stuff. $70/liter?...I think I will sip it slowly. What vintage is it?

You can get Motul 600 locally at Cycle Shop in Herndon. $9.95 per liter.

I'm starting to wonder if I stuck my foot in my mouth again. Is the Motul bottle a 1 liter bottle? If it's a half liter bottle, then John's right.

It's still my preferance, as SRF is just TOO much. If you flush Motul once or twice a year, you're still under the cost of SRF, and the performance is very similar.

Just imo.

The bottles are 1/2 liter. Got it at Fast Lane Cycles, which is right around the corner from Curry's in Chantilly.
John G

Worked great in all my auto tranny cars (Jetta, Golf, 750iL) but I havne't put it in my A4 yet (good thing).

When I install the lines I bought from you months ago, I think I'll use the Valvoline synthetic as well. I had good results on the street with that in the golf. But I never tracked it.
99.5 1.8Tqms Laser Red

does the SB actually foul something up, or does it just make the clutch squeak? I can live with the noise on the track (since I use supersqueaky race pads already), but I don't want my clutch slipping or whatever.

The reason i ask is because I already have the ATE SB ready to go for the next track event.

Advice?

Thanks,
Jimmy

Steve, is this where you found it at $70? It looks like Motul is a nice compromise. I just bought a can of Super Blue though. It think I will switch to the Motul next year.

Some folks say it works without a problem. But several guys (including me) have had the squeak and a couple actually had the slave cylinder fail. Both the ones I know about were replaced under warranty.

Sorry you paid the $10 for a liter, but I recomend you get something else. I switch to Motul 600 and the sqeak went away. I just hope no long term damage was done.

Good luck,
Rich

Just curious - I've been using Ate fluids for years in the entire race fleet and haven't had a problem. Never used Motul, although a bunch of friends do use it. It's just easier (and cheaper) for me to get Ate 200 and Super Blue.

We did have a problem last year with synthetic brake fluids - we had some odd seal deteriorations, and stuck dual cylinder check valves in a few master cylinders. We also found that the synthetic stuff turned really nasty looking after a very short time at sprint race temperatures. We have since stopped using synthetics.

I thought about going with the SRF, but I think its overkill for the few track events I attend. As soon I can locate some Motul 600 (the last time I went looking every place was out of stock), I replace the ATE Super Blue. I'll give that bike shop near Curry's a try (since I'll be there Saturday).
2000 Nogaro S4

Dunno if it was hard on the seals or not, but the sound goes away if you switch to another fluid.

I have since stopped using Super Blue. I tried to get some Castrol SRF at Baer Racing...Baer Brakes? Anyway, they don't have any...and haven't been able to get it for months. I will try OZRacing this time.

John, I still warp rotors at the track...kinda getting expensive.

As have I. The first symptom is a squeaky clutch lever. Eventually it leads to a failed clutch slave cylinder (you push the clutch down, and it doesn't come back up). Unlike Steve, I had mine replaced under warranty. :-)

Motul 600 has been working well in the S4, although I'm starting to wonder if I should opt for the better wet boiling point of the Castrol SRF. I've even had a little bit of brake fade with my Alcons (course, it was 100deg out, and my rotors/pads had lots of wear).

Perhaps it's the dye in the SuperBlue that causes problems? Hmmm...
Corey S

Assuming you have an S4 - the one with 5 spark plugs :^) you may not even have a problem as (I beleive) the hydraulic clutch system doesn't recirculate fluid back into the brake fluid reservoir as the newer model Audis do. Therefore, the fluid in the clutch circuit will remain there (unless you bleed it out) and should never see the new fluid. But, to be on the safe side, I wouldn't use it. Also, the blue dye ends up discoloring the reservoir making it dificult (over time) to see the fluid level.

I bought one liter of Blue, and one of gold figuring I'd alternate, and the color change would help when bleeding old fluid out. Except for the color, they are supposed to be the same spec.

When the Super Blue started squeaking I considered changing to the gold since I already had it, but then decided I didn't want to risk it. I wrote off the $10 and bought Motul 600. Looks like I made the right decision!!
John G
