View Full Version : Audi Well Represented At Angeles Crest Highway Drive Today!

This morning I went on an Angeles Crest Highway drive organized by John H. (I never did learn his last name). He has an older Porsche Turbo (which died getting out of his driveway, this morning, forcing him to get a friend to take him to the drive!), but all kinds of cars showed up for this thing - about 40-50, someone reported. Audi was well represented, including Brady in his A4, who was at the Spring Mountain event in Pahrump, a really nice 18 year old "kid" in a new TT, and James De Rose in a Silver S4. John H. suggested that I lead (someone must have sent him an email about my canyon driving proclivities!), and James pulled out right behind me every time, including our trip back down the hill, which was only the two of us. Although I had to let up from time to time to let him catch up, he did an amazing job of negotiating ACH in a bone stock S4, with stock tires and no previous track experience. Watching him in my mirrors was a kick! He says he'll be at Buttonwillow, so I'll be very curious to see how he does on a race track. I predict extremely well!

I look forward to seeing the rest of you at Buttonwillow as well!

But I will be in Buttonwillow.

Todd, can you email me the hotel info, so I can make reservations.

Thanks.

I had fun trying to push my new RE730 tires to their limit but could not make them squeal. I got to drive behind 3 different cars on the way up. First behind another A4, then behind a older porsche that would slow down in all the corners, this was not fun and did not help me. Then I got to drive behind the Yellow Boxter S which was a blast trying to keep up with him, the best drive I have taking so far.

Shihab, known as Mr. M Coupe on our Z3/M Coupe forum is going to go places with the RIGHT teacher! This 22 year old had his first ever AutoX at that Ultimate Street Car Challenge that Aurgus Publishing put on awhile back, and got hooked! And in only 5 events, he beat me! Now until then, there was only 1 other M Coupe that ever has. And today, as official times go, he beat me again by a bit. Hell, he was beating a LOT of the SS cars and the ASP cars!!! And on crappy Sumitomo tires as well. Though his car is modified (an ASP car), not many can drive their as well as HE does. With his talent, and the RIGHT teacher, I can see him going into real road racing! I'll try to send hinm your way.

Oh, and he blew Karl away too! He had a 59.108, I had a 59.310 (I did get a 58.232, but hit a pylon AFTER the light), and Karl got a 60.076.

Now, if I can make Buttonwillow too, . . . . how soon do you need the money???<p>**********

Hi Jyoteen:

Event headquarters will be the Good Nite Inn, but I haven't set anything up yet. I'll do it on Friday, when I'm back in L.A. I'm in Chicago at the moment, leaving for Indy tomorrow morning.

The lowest fee deadline is July 31. I just sent out email invitations, so it's early, but it should start filling up soon.

As for Shihab, get him to come to Buttonwillow. I'd love to help him refine his technique.

I took about 10-15 digital pics, but left town shortly after the drive, so I haven't even had a chance to download them yet.
