It was fun to play on track with REAL expensive Porsches...!!! I loved passing that Viper on the inside of turn 1-2.... :-)

Todd, who went off in the Ferrari? :-)

If anybody is interested ...Todd Serota is putting on another event at Buttonwillow Raceway located about 130 miles north of LA next month (I think). If you have time ...I highly recommend it. "I" will be there next month.

Great event, lots of open tracktime, and fast Porsches to play with. I passed a few, but it was mostly the other way. :-( Everybody was real polite and a good sport.

A special thanks to the instructors. My four, Hank, Sean G, Karl (or was it Kurt - he drove an older blue Mustang) and Mark F were all excellent.

Time to let the Dunlops RIP. 17K, 6 track events, a few AutoXs, they had a good life.

. . . that you mention passing the Viper, but not any Porsches! :-) As for the Ferrari, what Ferrari? :-)

You're correct about Buttonwillow - it's 130 miles north of L.A., and not much further from the Bay Area than Thunderhill. Similar track to Thunderhill in concept, dame length, with some different nuances. Also tons of fun!

. . . I can't run these events without participants! See my general post about the event up above for more on this subject.

The 95 M3 Race Car owned by Nigel Burns....Docta Boxsta in his yellow Boxster S...the infamous yellow Cabriolet driven by you...

I passed one of those mustangs twice...the other one once...I passed several 944s...almost caught up to Karl in the MCoupe...just needed another lap. The blue M3 and I were having fun for a couple of laps.

I thought you were driving the Ferrari on turn eight when it got screwy....maybe I was mistaken?

At the BMWCCA AutoX, I won my class and beat M Stock as usual. But a young kid, who's first ever taste of racing was at the Ultimate Street Car Challnge some months ago, well, . . . Shihab has an AWESOME blue M Coupe that is setup very well. And Sunday, he beat me! I am happy as hell that an M Coupe has finally shown what it can do! And he came in 3rd in M Mod class, only beaten by TWO of the instructors! SO in essence, he got the 3rd fastest time of the day of the BMW's! And he was just .04 off of Tom Smith's best time in his trick Type R!!!!! Now Karl is going to have his work cut out for him! Oh, and he was only on Sumitomos! JUST IMAGINE what he'd do on Kumho's!!!!

As for me, I showed up with brand new (smooth as a baby's ass) BFG KD's, so I might have been a bit quicker if they were scrubbed in, but still Shihab did an AWESOME job of driving! Corey, ya better look out for an Estroil Blue M Coupe with awesome twin pipes!

You were definitely going much faster than in January (an extra 60-70 hp will do that! :-)). Great job! Indeed, I belive Corey was running 2:18's in January, so you two would be right there together, unless he's a lot faster next time. However, fyi, there were a few other cars also turning faster than 2:18's. Two 996's that moved up from the blue group were turning 2:14 and 2:16 respectively. In fact, one of them put all 4 wheels off at the exit of turn 6 chasing me in the last session, but did a great job of just driving right back on the track. It was a blast watching it in my rear view mirror!

As for Nigel in the M3 race car, that thing hauls ass! He was turning around 2:07-2:08 - definitely the fastest thing out there that day.

Finally, if you're referring to my "excursion" in the Ferrari, it was exiting 14, not 8.

I recently discovered that Monday, October 9, the date scheduled for TracQuest's Willow Springs event, falls on Yom Kippur. It's never this late, but a friend heavily into Judaism tells me that this is a Jewish leap year, so a whole bunch of days are being added to the Jewish calendar. I obviously can't have an event on Yom Kippur, so the date has been moved to Monday, October 23. This is actually closer to mid-way between the two Buttonwillow events on Saturday, August 19 and Saturday, December 16. The only downside is that Monday, October 9 was Columbus Day, and Monday, October 23, isn't a holiday. But such is life.

For those not familiar with it, Willow Springs is called "The Fastest Track In the West," for good reason. There's nothing like it on the entire West Coast, due to its high speed turns. Turn 8 is a 130 mph turn in my 996 Cab, followed by turn 9, about a 100 mph turn in my car. Turn 2 is a 95 mph (again, in my car), over 180 degree sweeper that tells you exactly how your car is handling at the limit. It's the closest track to Southern California, but is well worth the drive for folks from the Bay Area.
