Last night my wife confessed that she had just driven our 99 V6 Tip for about 5 or 6 miles with the emergency brake on. I walked up to the car and smelled some nice toasty brakes. She would have travel from city to highway speeds.
>What damage could this have caused? To what extent? Do you think we could get this covered under warranty if there is a probelem? How would we approach the dealer?
Thanks!!!!
I find myself always repressing in that e-brake handle, making sure that it's been put down all the way. I'm nuts, huh? OK, well you may have caused damage to the rotors. I'm no expert but I think that once the rotors heat up they can get warped. Have you noticed any "shaking" when initially applying the brake, yet? Usually it is felt in the steering wheel. I bet you didn't do any damage, just heated up the rotors and pads.
I'd imagine you could probably get the dealer to cover any harm that may have been incurred.
Good luck and I hope she extra careful in the future!
JT 99' 1.8Tqms

I haven't driven it yet. I guess I'll just post one of those big yellow post-it-notes on the wheel to reming her to disengage the bloody hand brake. Thanks
I failed to release the brake all the way a couple of times - the steering wheel blocks my view of the warning light. I didn't drive 5-6 miles, but long enough to get a funny smell and realize what was wrong (maybe 3 miles). Anyway, that was over 30K miles ago and I'm still on the same pads and rotors. And I haven't noticed anything that would indicate that the rotors are warped.
Kyle
