What does the sway bar do?
If it is loose on one end can it affect the tires (ie alignment)?

View Full Version : What does the front sway bar do? Jason 08-10-1999, 05:20 PM What does the sway bar do?
If it is loose on one end can it affect the tires (ie alignment)? The Shell Answer Man 08-11-1999, 06:37 AM ...turn. Just think of it as a Nautilus Machine for your front tires and suspension. It minimizes body roll as the car corners, and keeps the inside tire in some kind of contact with the pavement, when it might otherwise lift up and miss the party. It does this by acting as a long, thin torsional spring.
One end being loose (or both ends being loose, for that matter) won't affect alignment. It would rattle around a bit, but nothing on the suspension is located (i.e. critically attached) by a sway bar. It's just there for the ride.
John/TSR |
