The A4 touring cars use 2.0 Litre 16 valve engine, 5 valve per cylinder is not allowed on race tracks. The engine has about 300 hp.
Kevin C.

Australian TOCA

If you can come to the Chicago A4 Club meeting on 2/20, Vortrag will be there talking about one of their two project cars... it'll be at Q Club at Road America, btw.
It should be a 2.0L 20v 4CYL Turbo, but I don't know what the total cost will be, etc. They are also working on a 3.0L 12v 6CYL engine for the A4. The TOCA engine is a 2.0L 16v 4CYL and is probably available for purchase from AudiSport or MTM.
info@vortrag.com is Vortrag's email, the 2.0L car will be set up for the beginning of the summer if the project finishes on time (pictures of the vented hood on the project car will be available at the end of the month, I'm going to take some pictures at the Chicago A4 meeting and post them).
Cameron

Both tuning cars from this tuner will be at the meeting mid-tune with closer-to-stock engine setups and the upgrade paths for both cars will be discussed.
Just a note if you're in the Midwest, Dave.
Cameron
486HP 2.0L engine. I've not seen any detailed specs on this engine, but it's fun to dream about.
Not sure what the Aussies are up to.
Robbie

I got the AudiSport Press Kit to prove it....it is in German...but I can read the horsepower numbers. Lets see...here is exactly what they say:
1) 4 cylinder (duh...)
2) 1998 ccm (2 liter engine)
3) 228kW (310 PS) bei 8250 U/min (310 bhp)
4) 260 Nm bei 7000 U/min (260 Newton Meters)
5) Bosch Motronic Mp 2.8
6) Castrol RS Motoroil
7) Michelin Radial 21/65 - 19
8) O.Z. Schmiedefelge 8.2 x 19 Zoll (OZ wheels - 19X8.2")
That is all I can figure out...the rest is LONG german words.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

Engine was built by Alistair Oag who owns a performance shop (InterPrep) in upstate New York. Ali is also an accomplished driver and trades a lot of his "work" in exchange for rides. Has built MANY successful endurance racing engines (had one in this past Daytona 24). He does a lot of Ivor's race engines as well as many of our competitors. Heck of a nice guy to boot.

What circuit could someone use that engine for....sounds like Speedvision cup would not allow it. Why does Ivor have it?
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
P.S. My car would love to test it for him. :-)

Hi - I am considering a A4 1.8T and would like to chip it. I am concerned with the warranty issue and also how much is the hp and 0-60 times is improved. Also what are the costs asscociated with the chip and how much for an install. Would appreciate any help
Thanks..
NP

Speedvision what? Cup?
Speedvision, the VW/Bentley deal, and the 3000GT/Stealth fiasco are only three of the thousands of disasters put together by auto industry lawyering.
Speedvision lost its title sponsor after fielding a fairly impressive list of cars last year. Because they threw away the rulebook last year to get tuners to join the series. Now, the people running the former Speedvision Cup don't understand that last year it took a series with pretty exotic modification levels to get participation (e.g.: nobody wants to watch stock A4's race, and no team is going to sponsor stock A4's to run around a track). So the last time I called Professional Sportscar, they say, "Well, last I heard we weren't allowing engine modifications this year." Greeaaaat, exclude the cars you got to participate to get an interesting series last year.
What a mess.
Cameron
Steve, I don't think there really was a race application in mind for that one. Ali built a "like" engine that was destined as a World Challenge or GT3 engine (not quite the output of the mentioned engine) -- but (more) legal <gg>.
I think that one was sold to someone who made Ivor an offer he couldn't refuse for a street A4. I think this one was built for the sake of building -- but if it found its way into a GT car .. hmmm. It's a damn solid, endurance engine and would probably serve as a semi-daily terror!
As John mentioned, it's a deal. There's probably $12k worth of parts in it. I'm trying to get Ivor to build us an open Rally car .. that would be just the engine!

Cameron, I'm not sure I'm following you entirely. I don't consider last year's cars in Speedvision Cup that much different than previous years in the series (I've been in it since Firehawk days in the mid 80's). The engines weren't quite stock but I don't think a "rules thrown out the window" description quite applies. Also not sure who/what you mean by the series taking action to lure tuners into the series.
As you probably know, there really isn't a Speedvision Cup in '99. Speedvision is now the title sponsor of the SCCA Pro's World Challenge series and have also announced series backing for the Motorola Cup (the sedan endurance series that started in Canada -- and drifted to the US last year).
Sanctioning for Motorola Cup is still yet to be determined (as well as Audi/TAP's participation). Motorola Cup didn't allow turbo cars in '98 so we weren't involved but they are legal now. Basically, the same rules as last year apply in Motorola Cup. You can view at them at www.canspan.com.
My honest opinion after working with several manufacturers on race efforts is that they prefer a more stock series. I don't believe our sponsors really care that much about the rules .. they just want it to be fair, us competitive and to get adequate exposure for their expended dollar.
Hope this helps.

The manufacturers do, of course, like a stock series. The idea of seeing a car win a race and then being able to buy the car is exciting for the viewer and -- more important -- generates revenue for the car maker and its dealer structure.
Last year the rulebook was, to say the least, different from any other series... I'd say Speedvision was ALIEN to any other series and that's what made it cool. Esp. the TAP car (others as well) were like the Audis/BMWs/etc. from some alternate universe... that was cool.
A satisfied viewer,
Cameron

>the TAP car .... from some alternate universe.
If you only knew the crew and drivers, you'd realize just how correct you are!
pt

I'm from west Pa. I'll be in
chicago 2/26. Maybe they'll delay the meeting for me. Wishful thinking!I don't believe there is a Q-club in my area.
