Questions:
1. Any experiences mounting full race harness in a street A4 such that you can still use the normal seatbelts and the rear seat (when not using the race harness)??
2. Where to buy Sabelt harnesses?

Look in the FAQ, under Interior. You'll find instructions on mounting a Schroth Rallye 4 harness that stays completely out of the way when not in use, IF you modify it so you can buckle the right theigh strap into the stock buckle. It's really a no brainer and there's instructions on how to take a lap belt and buckle from the rear, middle, passenger assembly out of an old 80s 5000S and simply take out the Schroth belt with mounting bracket and replace it with the buckle. In fact, I think I just told you how to do it! :) Check the FAQ for clarification.
I don't have any info on Sabelt or how to mount them but the Schroth has been fine for me.
Good Luck
Enzo

I have a Schroth rallye 4 in my 1.8T. I did not use the lap belt mod from the FAQ. All I had to do to fasten to the inside mount was:
1 unhook the clip in the front of my seat
2 Slide the seat off the rail in front
3 I was then able to lift the front of the seat up enough to climb under the seat and unfasten the seat belt mount down there.
4 attached the harness mount on top of the seat belt buckle mount
5 reverse process to put back together
all in all the whole installation took about 1 and a half hours to do the whole harness install.
you should get the rallye 4 because the back half is detachable and the front will go under the drivers seat when not in use.
Good luck, feel free to e-mail me any questions.
Happy Holidays,
Bobby Hopp

First of all, I can't offer a rear seat solution that will work in the stock condition, but if you mounted a supported strut (cage strut) behind the seats you could bolt your rear harness hardware there. In a cage setup (which I know more about in A4's), the B Diagonal takes the bolt points with support plates to match. Note that the B Diagonal cage designs (993 Touring, Lotus Esprit GT-Type, etc.) normally do not consider a passenger seat, let alone a back seat. But, if you go with a cage, those harnesses would link directly behind the seats, with four plate-reinforced bolt lines.
If you want to see a bar Sabelt setup, go take a peek at one of John Ruther's cars... he has two GT2 Porsches that both have Recaro SPG's (same seat I have) with this configuration. The bar configuration, if done creatively, could maintain 2+2 compatability in the A4. The Northstar car has a passenger seat with a slightly altered cage geometry, while the other is set up for driver-only occupancy, with fire suppression gear and electronics filling other cavities of the passenger compartment.
Sparco is the authorized SabeltUSA vendor. Pick up a copy of the Sparco catalog next time you're at the local speed shop, got mine from a buddy who races his M3/Lite/T.
Cameron
