Man, after watchin that thing you think Audi...from 1981-88... was on top of rally, GT, and IMSA racing. I just LOVE the strange sound as they go thru the gears....what is that sound anyway...I mean exactly...?
Michele Mouton kicked butt
Walter Rohlr (sp?) kicked butt
Hans Stuck kicked butt
and then later...
Frank Biela kicked butt (94-97)
I sure wish they could get some of this racing 80s...90s....and sport
quattros to the Audi Quattro Driving Schools in California. I know
they come to the events in Minnesota...
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

I have that one, and it has some good clips, but I like "The Oficial Story" better. It has a better story, so to say.
The other cars were great rally cars, but the S1 was beyond insane and still based on a production car!!! Within 3-4secs of F1 lap times on gravel, oh most holy . . . . and the SOUNDS!! If my UrQ only sounded 1/10th that beastly! I think the chirp you're referring to is the blow-off valve for the turbo.
I got them mail order from NYC, but I can't find the catalog. I want to get San Remo '85 :-))))))
Todd W
Back in the 80's Hoppen brought out the Sport Quattro down to Mid-Ohio i believe at a QClub event. The legendary John Buffum was driving it, the car hit top speed halfway down the straight, so for fun, they put a chicane in the middle. ahhhh the good ol days!

...where Audi/Auto Union is to be the featured marque. The Quattro Club is trying to get all the Sport Quattros in the U.S. to go to Monterey; supposedly, there are only 8 or 9 left in this country. There were only 200 Sport Quattros ever built, and many were destroyed in competition. Anyway, since Frank Beddor, founder of the Quattro Club, owns a couple of them, I'm sure there will be at least a few at Monterey.
The Sport Quattro is a truly beautiful car. It is similar to an Ur-Quattro, but the shorter wheelbase and additional bodywork make it look much sportier, like it wants to eat Porsches for lunch. Also, the engine is much more powerful than an Ur-Q (306 hp stock), and it is light due to extensive kevlar bodywork.
Since I live in Minnesota, I've been fortunate enough to see one at two different driving schools. Next time, I'm going to ask for a ride. The one I've seen has been modified to 500 hp, supposedly.
Sun International (www.suninternational-usa.com) has a Sport Quattro for sale for the bargain price of $95K. If only...
Rich D.
