Saw press release for new track being built in Northern Califormia. Does anyone know where this is? I know very little about California. The release said that groundbreaking for the motorplex should occur next spring. By 2001, there will be grandstand seating for 40,000, a 1.3-mile banked oval and road courses inside the oval.
Second-phase construction will include 10,000 seats for the 4,650-foot drag strip and expanded grandstand seating. That work should be done by the end of 2002.
There will be 20,000 parking spaces for spectators, plus other parking areas for VIPs, motor homes, buses and competitors.
The developers want the facility in use 365 days per year through races, testing, racing schools, club activities and corporate events.
The project, at Highway 65 and Forty Mile Road, was first called the Arciero Motorplex after Arciero. Now the working title is the Yuba County Motorplex.

Can you say boonies????
And I thought Thunderhill Park Raceway was far away. This is about as far as Reno Nevada is from San Francisco. Check out mapquest and do a search on Yuba City....this new track is definitely in the boonies.
Hey, Philip, I met Ivor at TAP on Wednesday. We talked for a long time. Very interesting conversation.
Later
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

> track in Yuba
Well, no wonder they didn't encounter any resistance when the idea came up .. folks there were probably just glad to see someone <gg>.
>meeting Ivor
Glad you got to meet Ivor .. I'm sure he has you signed on as an associate sponsor or something! Was he or Roger any help on the suspension reenforcement issue? I'm sure he told you about all that was going on with Subaru, Audi and possibly Lotus. Never a dull moment in his world!
Take care,
pt

...it is really west of Tahoe/Reno and is not much different than driving to Willows/Thunderhill. Instead of driving as far north to Willows you drive more east to Yuba City.
In fact, from my house the new raceway is much, much closer than Thunderhill. :-)
Sean
97 1.8Tqm

Phillip...he told me about Subaru....about the Fire Fighter stuff...about the new S4 at AoA....about that funky Renault in the driveway...tried to sell me the green 350 bhp 94 S4 with 160K miles...showed me the $6.5K suspension on the 1.8 FWD Speedvision car....showed me the new 420 bhp 2.0L engine from Audi....about the new building....about the new trailer....tried to sell me the old trailer and truck. And he said he would probably make it out for the Vegas Audi Quattro Event. I took up too much of his time. He said you are pretty handy with a radio..and have only goofed and had both cars pit at the same time only a dozen times :-) (nah...he didn't say that)
Well, I know he is busy for awhile.....no help on the suspension...we only had the Speedvision FWD car to look at. I will take pictures and get his opinion.
Steve

So, what did you do the other 1 hour and 55 minutes <gg>. Yep, sounds like Ivor.
Not getting the cars in on top of each other is easy .... getting Ivor to man the fire bottle is another story <gg>.
Tip: .. don't try to out-drink him. Between him, Roger and Dave ... there's some bartenders still in awe and some happy Newcastle stock holders!
Thanks.
pt
