A number of A4 and Passat owners showed up for the Oct 31st running of the SCCA sanctioned Solo2 Slush-series autocross today. Aaron (AJL), Warren Yang, Karen Yang (M3 owner), John Chevanasin(I spelled it wrong), Sharon Levy (and the evil one- her husband), showed up to run in the autocross. (side note: Sharon was pissed cause her husband happened to beat her, in HER car, I am sure that she wants a rematch). The course was more tight and definitely set up for the miata crowd (Corvette and Impala SS owners were definitely swearing their heads off). I had to leave before SS and CSP groups could run, but I did happen to see a few fast times....mid 41 and 42 seconds. An BMW M Coupe (that lurked at this event on Oct 3rd) even ran....coulda done better with a little practice though. I was gauging (guaging?) my time against the faster M3s...of which there were many....and I believe their best time was 43.4 seconds. Most of the M3s were in the 44 - 47 second range. My best time was a 47.9 seconds. Ok...but not great. The worst time I saw was a 77.6....and the guy didn't even hit any cones?? how did he do that?
I will try to get some pictures from Karen (Warren's sister) and see if I can scan them.
Looks like this is the last autocross of the season for the Northern California region...
Until next year....
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
P.S. I don't recall the other A4/Passat times...so I didn't list them....They were in the
50.5 - 55 second range.

Yah, it was fun. I actually liked the course more than the one earlier this month and the Stockton one (which was very short). Aaron got the best time of us in GSR with a 50.something in his Passat, my best was a 51.5 or so.
The 77.6 came from a guy I work with :). He was red flagged at the first big turn cuz he forgot to put his helmet on.
I have the pics, and if I don't get my stinking scanner soon, I'll pass 'em along. Thanks for taking most of the pics, Steve :).
It was gobs of fun, thanks to Sharon and Derek for letting me test their chips. The next one is next Sunday in Stockton and my sister is bugging me to go (the bug has really bitten her hard), so everyone should go so I'm not the only A4 there again. It's only an hour away...honest.
Warren

Steve, I know you said the driver could have done better, but I'd like a bit more info on what you saw. Did it look like it could have been a LOT faster? What were its times? Was it impressive in handling and straight line speeds? Did it lean or look real stable in the turns? Did you get pics of it too?
