Okay, as you all know, I have a transmission I worked on extensively for the first part of the summer. It is a five speed, Tiptronic, shifts quickly (though you feel it "slam" into gear), but I feel I'm getting close to the limits of the transmission here. Or at least where transmissions using many OEM parts can be -- specifically the binding columns in the torque converter, but other components also. My first reaction is to talk to my local Porsche dealer and have them think about installing a 911/996 Tiptronic in my A4. At 220hp (driveline confirmed), my transmission is feeling it.
Opinions? Have A!Avantgarde do it? Have TAP do it? Who would be the right shop to approach on something like this. I'm a DIY type of person, but not when it comes to cross-brand stuff where I didn't build it and don't know *exactly* how it works. Seems like if I linked up with the right people, this could be a neat project to play around with... suggestions?
Cameron

Hey Cameron,
I posted earlier in the general forum regarding upgrated and/or replacements for the factory 5hp19 transmission. The follow ups were that no one had anything yet. Custom would be the only way to go for now. I'm planning to bring my A4 18t Tip's power up over 200hp as well, and would be very interested in any information you can find out.
Thanks.
James Wu
A4 Club of Vancouver
1998 Black/Onyx 1.8tqa

A4 Club of Vancouver

Race Marque Systems does a lot of one-off stuff for BMW's, when I took my father's car there for routine service work, they had quite an array of interesting projects. There was a 2002 with an E30 M3 engine being stuffed in it, and a turbocharged E36 M3 complete with front-mount intercooler, gauges, full suspension, 18" wheels, custom stereo with Alpine TV's in each headrest. . .needless to say, cool stuff :)
In addition, the owner's a pretty cool guy, I'm not sure what they'd do for Audi's, but it couldn't hurt to ask. They're located in Van Nuys, CA. . . .
HTH,
Edmund Louie
98 A4Q 30V - in need of forced-induction
