It was probably the coolest wreck that I've ever seen (if you could call a wreck cool). The Porsche GT1 was in the lead as it went over the crest of a hill, when the nose caught some air and the car flew about 25 feet in the air, did a complete flip, and as it landed on it's tail, the rear of the car exploded. Then it crashed into the wall. The driver exited the car on his own and was just a bit shaken up. Super cool!
JohnS
The crash was certainly one of the most spectacular, I wouldn't really call it "Cool", it wasted a fabulous race car.
You can see pictures of the race and many of this crash at;
www.petitlemans.com
Bob B
I was in the pits at Road Atlanta .. didn't get to see it live but watched it several times on the Jumbo tv ... most amazing accident I have ever seen! Thank God that Dallmas was ok .. he walked away like it was nothing.
RPM2Night had a great clip of it on tonight's Speed Shots segment. I believe its on again tonight at 2:30am (est) so get those VCR's rolling!
The "flight" was the buzz of the paddock all day yesterday .. the car wasn't really as bad as you might think. Chassis was still pretty solid but as someone once said .. "gonna need a lot of paint and some screen doors!". Doubt it makes Laguna or Homestead.

I was right there and stared in HORROR as it happend! That is the problem with those AERO cars - the pan underneath (or at least back then) the car was solid, and somehow her front lifted just enough for the air to flip it! The car went straight up nose first, then crashed on its roof right on the concrete wall that was next to the track! She was hurt very badly too! And that beautifyl Group 44 Jag was toast :(
