I apologize for being so annoying lately saying "I'm going to be getting an A4 in the next couple of months" and "What should I get". My mother calls me a snot nosed punk(lovingly of course). But I probably resemble that remark!
Anyway, before I slap down my hard earned $30K on a 1.8TQ....I should probably not get the Sport Package if I am going to get aftermarket suspension, wheels and tires. I can get the sport steering wheel and sport seats, but why waste the money on something I will eventually change, right? I mean it won't be hooked up the week i first get the car, little by little...
Am I missing something...is this smart or should I still get the Sport package?
I definately want the Quattro(no matter what any of you say), and the sunroof, sport seats, no Bose, sport steering wheel,no all-weather package.
Input?
Thanks (from the spoiled brat!)

You should go drive two quattros back to back, one with sport and one without. The A4's sport pkg is a pretty good bargain, and it's been designed specifically for the A4. To me it seems that unless you're a hardcore autoX'er, the A4 sport package should suit your needs quite well.

$0.02
-K.
'99 A4 1.8tqMS

I was in your position about a month ago and I also figured, "Why blow money on items that are going to be changed?"
Well, first off I decided to get the sport package in the end because of a few reasons. I have heard that the sway bars in the sport package are different than those of the base model.
Secondly, I figured that if I eventually do power mods I should look at braking mods too.
Here it snows for 4-5 months of the year (not this year though) and snow tires are a must. If I get the base 15" wheels then when I do my brake mods the wheels probably won't clear the new brakes. The 16" wheels will clear a mediumish brake upgrade and therefore would make a good choice as winter wheels in the future.
So I figured it would be in my best interest to get the sport package.
Kevin S
1990 Jetta GTX w/95 VR6 swap
99 1.8TQMS due in March

I drove the A4Q w/o and with sport package and it was no question. For the bucks, this is the best thing on the list together with Q.
Getting everything aftermarket will end up costing more, but not necessarily being better. Personally, the only mods I do to my car are in electrical, other than that it's all stock and baby, is it good.
I didn't get the sport seats because how often are you pressing thru a tight turn, vs. being stuck in rush hour. But that is again a matter of preference and geography :-)
- Stan
Well, that is exactly my car, except I did get the sport package. I find it works well, and having had it for a while I don't think I would change it. I live close to the mountains and it is a very nice compromise of handling and ride, after all a lot of the roads in this country are not kept up all that well, and a little more roll stiffness does no good if your airborne.

After changing everything, I still regret not getting the sport steering wheel. Regret regret regret. In my opinion, it completely changes the attitude of the interior in a way aftermarket steering wheels cannot.
I did what you propose. I changed the wheels. I changed the shocks. I changed the springs. I changed the seats (Recaro SPG). I changed the ride height. I changed the brakes. Etc.
But I still miss that steering wheel. Also, I would have gotten twice as much for my seats if they'd been sport package seats.
Cameron
...just a thought, cuz i know a lot of people who want the sport suspension and wheels, but i dont know anyone who wants the stock 15 inch wheels and a stock non sport suspension. just my two cents.
AndrewT

You can have a great relationship with your parents without being so dependant. I didn't think there was a problem at first, but you're getting way too defensive about this. Being self reliant should not get in the way of a HEALTHY parent-child relationship. I can't say without knowing you better, but from your posts it sounds like Anon has a point. You shouldn't be getting random handouts from your parents at your age. I can, but I don't. You make it sound like she is paying for the relationship.
Todd W

i thought the same way you are thinking now. i ordered my 1.8tqtip with the following:
-sport steering wheel
-all-wheather
-sunroof
-i opted not for the sports package cuz i know im gonna change the suspension to coilovers and the rims to other ones. the extra money saved goes to buying those things or if you like, increases your down payment to bring the monthly payment down. just my 0.02 cents...=)

First of all, I do not want to make it sound like my mother pays for our relationship. She makes pretty good money (being a single mom and all) and if she hands me some money once in awhile, it's because she wants to. I don't accept it all the time, but she still gives it to me..I never expect anything from anyone. You guys do not know me at all. And I'm sorry if these postings come off a little snotty, but when you guys start namecalling, what kind of people are you? I'd like to think this group is a mature one (A4 owners and all) but I keep seeing this immaturity spewing from the mouths of guys older than I am! I'm starting to not like this forum anymore honestly. If someone tries to post something about their curiousities, they are immediately flamed by the 'elitist-like' people reading the post. If you are bored with answering the same questions or annoyed with newcomers, than be my guest and don't answer the post or just leave the forum all together. I hate explaining my personal life to people in a post here, but I'm tired of you guys already!
And if you have any more to respond to me about, e-mail me, and we'll discuss it personally, otherwise, lay off! The only thing I get "personal" over is that issue...not my personal life. I have no problems in that area.

Ok....now...lets get back to talking about Audis and the A4 in particular. Thank you. This is directed not to just one person. You guys want to discuss this offline...thru email..by all means do so...otherwise be nice.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
