I apologize in advance for asking this question in this part of the forum, but more people seem to come here. I now own a '97 Wrangler and my girlfriend owns a '96 Civic. She keeps complaining about a water rushing sound coming from the passenger side behind the dashboard somewhere. I have read in this forum before of someone with an A4 with a similar sound. What do you think it is? Is it something to worry about? She thinks it could be gasoline(she is no mechanic though!) I was told by a friend it could be water stuck in a drain or tube somewhere trapped and it can't drain out...How do I fix this?(If anyone has experience with Hondas or whatever)
Thanks alot
Christian
Future 99.5 1.8TQS Tip or M(can't decide)
PS- How much would a tune up be for the Civic with 30K miles on it be? We got quoted $420..that seems ridiculous! Any help is appreciated.
That's why I like Audi....all scheduled maintenance is free for 3yrs!

Just kidding. I wonder if it could be the fuel pump or something related. It could possibly be the coolant running through the heater core that is usually located under the dash.
I'm just guessing, though.
JohnS
1.8TQM Neuspeed Brilliant Yellow

I agree with John. I have an '88 CRX that makes the same sound. I think it's when the engine comes up to temp and the thermostat opens, to allow water to circulate throught the heater core (passenger side footwell). HTH.
CraigB

I'll just tell my girl that it is a very dangerous gas leak and we have to sell it...and then she can help me buy the A4!
Just kidding...thanks again..I won't worry!

My wife owns a '97 Civic. $420 is too much to pay for someone to change spark plugs, wires, and do a diagnostic check which will likely show up nothing unless you already know of a problem. Change the plugs and wires yourself. Beyond that, there really isn't a whole heck of a lot involved in a modern tune-up of a Japanese car.

Only $3,200. 1990 CRX HF. 105xxx miles. Its Bright Red, black interior, 5 speed stick, new battery, new alternator, new tires. Also has alum rims, and a VERY good security system with power locks. I'm the original owner. I've made it from Central Illinois to the very tip of northern Michigan on ONE tank of gas.

I was asking $3,500 but I'm giving a discount becuase the left front CV boot needs to be replaced. Its no big deal, I just haven't had time since I moved.
I've been using Mobile 1 fully synthetic oil for some time now. The car has always been in the garage or in a car port. I always keep it well waxed with Meguires polish.

This car is very sharp - for a non-audi.
I'm in St. Louis. Give me a call - 314-922-0873

My wife drives a '96 Civic LX auto with 92,000 miles. We have had all of the maintenance done at a private import shop. They use Honda parts and do everything the dealer would do for less than half the cost. Our 60,000 check was around $120 and the 90k (timing belt, water pump, etc.) was $419. (I do not remember the cost of the 30k.) You should be able to find one in the yellow pages.
As for the gurgling, I think it may have something to do with the A/C. On hot humid days water actually drips on the passengers feet.
'96 Civic LX 1.6anemic auto
'98 Civic LX 1.6anemic manual

...doubt this is what you are hearing, but the condensor drains down the right side of the dash (on '93's anyway!), through the fire wall, right where passengers put their feet. If a passenger puts their foot in the wrong place, the rubber drain line will kink, and water will back up. You'd know if this happens, because it will find another way out, and will run through the lower part of the dash and drain on the driver's right foot while turning right. It's a very aggressive stream of very cold water when this happens! My point is that if the AC is used, even with defrost, you could be hearing the water drain.
Charles
