I was wondering if the various chips that are made for the K04 can be used with any other turbo?
I guess I'd like to know if the programming for the boost is matched to what the turbo puts out at a specific rpm or whether the fuel is mapped simply to a boost value?
I was wondering if a chip designed for a K04, or for that matter any 1+ bar chip, could be used on some other hybrid turbo?
Any other gearheads out there have any ideas?
Kev
1990 Jetta GTX w/95 VR6 swap
99 1.8TQMS due in March
I think the chip contains a map or correlation between fuel input and boost value. But it may *also* contain a map for ideal engine speed for a given output. The "hybrid" turbos, available currently from GreedSpeed and a number of other vendors who do not advertise on A4.org, are likely different enough that chip reprogramming would be needed *to maximize efficiency*. No one is saying you need a certain program. There is no perfect program. You should find a program (chip) that provides output complementary to your use of the car.
Many of the vendors have test cars or project cars. Presently, most of the more glitzy ones are 1997 A4 1.8T FWD models. Ask the tuner, or a representative acting on the tuner's behalf who seems knowledgable, exactly how much time the test car spent on the road.
Your big red flag here is: "Duh... we put some stuff on the car and got some damn impressive numbers off the dyno. It was on the road back to the garage so it would be there in time to get some cool decals put on it..."
Cameron
