View Full Version : Questions about the underside of my A4

From the picture above:<p>1. This is caused by my garage door step, there is a spot that I have to avoid where it is<br>especially steep and which my sport-suspension A4 does not clear. It rubs it with the front<br>mudflap (unavoidable) but also with this part marked 1. in the picture. It has the lowest<br>ground clearance. I know now how to prevent this from happening again so my<br>question is what should I use to treat it against rusting?<p>2. Both ends of this part (pardon my lack of proper terminology) marked 2 (only one end is visible in this picture) are slung lower than its centre. The left hand one is hanging even more from the underside of the car, and can be pushed up (it's not stuck solid in that position). Doesn't look right to me. Can you check this on your car and get back to me?<p>Thanks,<br>Gus<br>

I wouldn't worry about #1. My H&R coil-over sprung 1.8 has dragged that part more times than I can count, with no rust after a year.. I've come to refer to it as my "sacrificial skid plate"<p>Rich Quinlan<ul><li><a href="http://home.att.net/~richquinlan">Quinland</a></li></ul>

I believed the #2 is the plastic underside protector. You have to take this off before you can change your oil. Along the edge of this thing there are several screws that attached it to the frame of the car. Along both end of this piece are attached by plastic screw in the wheel well. You should check if the screws are loose.

I believe number 2 is held up by atwo big screws at the end attached to the chasis. They are in fact metal. One of mine has been ripped right out, so only one side is completely secured. I took it back to Audi and tthey told me not to worry about it. It will hold. BTW, does anyone know what the part number or name of this under tray is? I want to get one from Clairs.

Thanks for your reply,<br>yep I definitely saw a screw on one end and it seemed loose. Why didn't the<br>dealer want to fix it for you? I'm pretty sure this will hold up but snow and dirt could<br>build up in there.<p>Gus

It's not that they don't want to fix it for me, it's just that part of the plastic undertray was actually ripped off, which means the screw can no longer be attached to it. Here in Aust, it will cost me $300 for that piece of plastic, and they say it is not that important, unless I travel on the AUtobahn. That's why I want to find out how much it is at Clairs.
