There are quite a number of excellent tire choices out there. Unless you regularly take your car to the limit and/or spend a lot of time on the track, many of the popular choices will more than suffice.

At the top of the food chain are the Bridgestone S-03PP, Toyo T1-S, Kumho MX, Dunlop 9000, Pirelli PZero Rosso, BFG KD Force, Yoko AVS Sport. You really cannot go wrong with any of these tires. Prices on these tires run between $120-$180/tire in stock size. Are there differences between these tires? Sure. But all will serve you well IMO.

The next level down in terms of performance offersgood value and will most likely meet or exceed most peoples performance requirements. Popular choices are the Kumho 712, Yoko ES100, and the Falken GB451. These tires generally run bout $100/tire for 225/45-17.

Treadwear is very difficult to measure across brands. There is no standardized system for measuring treadwear (treadwear ratings are set by each manufacturer to compare models within that brand). Generally speaking, the more grip (ie, softer rubber), the less miles....

Weight is also a factor. Tire weight is unsprung which means that it affects the handling characteristics of your car/suspension. People often focus on finding light weight wheels without realizing that tires can vary by ~5lbs across manufacturers in the same size. Since the tire is located on the outside circumference of the wheel, it can be argued that 1lb on a tire will have more of an affect on performance than 1lb on a wheel.

Michelin, Pirelli, and Yokohama did not have weights published.

I have personally run Bridgestone S-02PPs and Toyo T1-S. I am going to try the Kumho MXs in the Spring.
