I recently test drove a couple brand new Tiptronic A4 1.8T's (each with less than < 30 miles total). The engine seemed fairly coarse at idle and quite "herky-jerky" during stop and go city driving.
Will the engine "smooth out" during the Audi recommended break-in period, or does it reflect the intrinsic character of this engine during stop and go city driving?
Thanks.

I have an '97 1.8T manual with 36K. I found that the engine did loosen up and my mileage keeps on improving. But there are other factors such as air temp that also are a large factor. By and large through, the engine has loosened up but still retains more roughness than I prefer.
PH

I only have 1500 miles on it, but I could swear that the engine and transmission have loosened up. Either I'm getting used to the engine's buziness, or it really did. I prefer to think it did :)
It also seems to be a little faster, but this also can be attributed to me getting used to it, or to colder weather.
Andrei D.
Red 1.8T QMS
