given that a sizeable proportion of US car owners insist on running on 87 octane fuel can you
blame audi for detuning it? look for the chip makers to restore the proper oomph.
german spec S4 sez 98 octane RON fuel needed or 94 octane (R+M)/2. in the west coast you can't even buy anything higher than 92 (R+M)/2 and i can see how some people buying this car will insist on running it on 87!
(sarcasm mode on)
gas is sooo expensive here that even people buying $45K cars cannot afford the best fool!
maybe audi should put in a low compression 8 liter dodge V10 or a 6 liter cummins turbodiesel
for the american version!!
(sarcasm mode off)
americans deserve it. if you have a KMart mentality then you deserve KMart quality!

in case it wasn't clear, the german version is rated at 265 bhp *only* with 94 octane
fuel. given that this is not available in most parts of the US, AoA could simply be quoting the output with 91 or 92 octane.
i think the spec sheet for the S4 may still be up at the official audi web site.
